Pakistan passport holders need an approved visa before traveling to Australia. As of 2026, the simplest option for short visits is the Electronic Travel Authority (ETA), which is linked electronically to your passport and valid for 12 months.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa (ETA) applicationETA (Australia): Electronic Travel Authority — a digital visa linked to your passport. Required for all eligible passport holders. Apply via the Australian ETA app ($20 AUD fee) before travel.
Electronic Travel Authority (subclass 601)
You must apply for an ETA before boarding your flight to Australia. Download the official Australian ETA app on your phone — the app is free, but the application costs $20 AUD. Third-party websites charge extra fees and are not official. Approval usually comes through in seconds, but apply at least a few days before travel just in case.Apply for ETARequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for the entire stay
Your passport must be valid for the full duration of your stay in Australia. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires before you leave, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Australia
Immigration officers routinely ask for a return or onward ticket at the border. Have a printed or digital copy of your outbound flight booking ready — they want to see you plan to leave before your ETA expires.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Immigration may ask where you are staying. Have your hotel confirmation, hostel booking, or a letter from your host with their address and contact number ready to show.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Officers can ask for evidence of sufficient funds for your stay. Carry a recent bank statement or credit card statement showing you have enough money for accommodation, food, and transport.Recommended
ETA is not guaranteed
Even with an approved ETA, the final decision to let you in is made by the immigration officer at the border. Have all your documents ready — return ticket, accommodation, and proof of funds.
Apply directly, avoid scams
Only use the official Australian ETA app or the Department of Home Affairs website. Third-party sites often charge inflated fees and may not process your application correctly.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for an ETA online
Go to the Australian Department of Home Affairs website or download the ETA app. Fill in your passport details, personal info, and answer a few questions. Pay the fee (around AUD 20). Approval is usually instant, but allow up to 12 hours.
2
Check your passport validity
Make sure your passport is valid for at least 6 months from your arrival date. If it expires sooner, renew it before applying for the ETA.
3
Book your flight and accommodation
Book a return or onward ticket and your first night's accommodation. Keep confirmations handy — digital copies on your phone are fine.
4
Arrive at the airport
At the check-in counter, show your passport. The airline will verify your ETA electronically. You don't need a printed visa.
5
Go through immigration in Australia
At the airport, join the queue for foreign passports. Hand over your passport. The officer may ask about your trip, accommodation, and return ticket. Answer honestly. You'll get an entry stamp and you're in.
