Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply online before departure
Apply at evisa.gov.kh for $30 USD. Processing takes 3 working days. You get a PDF approval letter — print it and carry it with your passport.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your arrival date
Cambodia enforces the 6-month validity rule strictly. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Cambodia
Immigration officers at Phnom Penh and Siem Reap airports routinely ask for a confirmed onward or return flight. Have a printed or digital copy ready.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host address
Carry a printed hotel confirmation or a letter of invitation from your host. Immigration rarely asks, but budget airlines sometimes check before boarding.Recommended
Proof of funds
At least $1,000 USD or equivalent
Officers may ask to see cash or bank statements showing you can support yourself. $1,000 USD per person is the informal threshold.Recommended
Cash only at visa counter
The visa on arrival counter only accepts US dollars in cash. There are ATMs after immigration, but you can't use them before paying. Bring $30–$35 in small bills — $100 notes are often rejected because they can't make change.
Business visa vs tourist visa
If you think you might want to stay longer than 30 days, get the business visa ($35 instead of $30). It's extendable; the tourist visa is not. You can upgrade from tourist to business later, but it's more hassle and costs extra.

What happens at the border

1
Fill out the arrival card and visa application form
On the plane or at the airport before immigration, grab an arrival card and a visa application form. Fill them out in capital letters. You'll need your passport number, flight number, and hotel address.
2
Queue at the Visa on Arrival counter
At Phnom Penh (PNH) or Siem Reap (REP), look for the 'Visa on Arrival' counter before passport control. Hand over your passport, completed forms, photo (if you have one), and $30/$35 cash. They'll process it in 5-10 minutes.
3
Proceed to passport control
Once you have the visa sticker in your passport, join the passport control queue. Present your passport and arrival card. They may ask for your return ticket or hotel booking — have them ready on your phone.
4
Collect your luggage and exit
After passport control, grab your bags from the carousel and walk through customs. There's usually no baggage check unless you look suspicious. Welcome to Cambodia.

Frequently asked questions

A tourist visa (30 days, single entry) costs $30 USD. A business visa (30 days, single entry) costs $35 USD. Both must be paid in cash — US dollars only. They rarely have change for large bills, so bring smaller denominations like $20s, $10s, and $5s.
Yes, but only the business visa can be extended. A tourist visa cannot be extended — you'd have to leave and re-enter, or apply for a different visa type. The business visa can be extended for up to 1 year through a Cambodian visa agency or the immigration department in Phnom Penh. Expect to pay around $50–$100 for a 1-month extension through an agency.
Not strictly — they'll take a digital photo at the counter. But having one (passport-sized, 4x6 cm) can speed things up if their camera or system is slow. It's a nice backup.
Visa on arrival is available at all major land borders, including Poipet (from Thailand), Bavet (from Vietnam), and Cham Yeam (from Thailand). The process is the same — fill out forms, pay $30/$35 in cash, and get your visa. Some smaller crossings may not offer it, so check ahead if you're planning an overland route.
Yes, Poland is eligible for Cambodia's e-visa. It costs $36 + $7 processing fee, takes 3 business days, and is valid for 30 days. You apply online at evisa.gov.kh. The e-visa is only accepted at certain entry points (major airports and some land borders), so check the list before applying. It saves you queuing at the visa counter on arrival.
Overstay fines are $10 USD per day, capped at $500. You pay at the airport immigration office before departure. They're strict about this — don't assume you can just leave without paying. If you're staying longer, extend your visa before it expires.
Technically yes — immigration may ask for proof of onward travel. In practice, it's rarely checked at the visa counter, but airlines sometimes require it before boarding. Always have a booked ticket out of Cambodia (or at least a refundable one) to be safe.
