Apply online before travel

Proof of sufficient fundsCarry bank statements or cash to prove you can support yourself while in Sri Lanka.
For your stay
You may be asked to show evidence of sufficient funds to cover your expenses during your stay in Sri Lanka. The amount is not fixed but should be proportionate to your length of stay.Recommended

Where you'll stay
Immigration may request the address of your accommodation in Sri Lanka. Have your hotel booking or host's contact details ready.Recommended
Yellow fever vaccination certificateYou only need this if you've been in a yellow fever country shortly before coming to Sri Lanka.
If arriving from an infected area
If you are arriving from a country with risk of yellow fever transmission, you must present a yellow fever vaccination certificate. Serbia is not a yellow fever risk country, but this applies if you travel from an affected region. Not required
Arrival declarationYou don't need to fill out any extra arrival form beyond the standard immigration card.
Not required
Sri Lanka does not require a separate arrival declaration for Serbian passport holders at this time. Not required
Use the official ETA website only
There are many third-party sites that charge inflated fees for the same ETA. Always use https://eta.gov.lk/ — the official Sri Lankan government portal. The fee is $35 USD, not $100+.
Passport validity is critical
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your arrival date. Even if you have an approved ETA, you'll be turned away if your passport doesn't meet this rule. Check your expiry date now.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for your ETA online
Go to https://eta.gov.lk/ and fill out the application. You'll need your passport details, travel dates, and a valid email address. Pay the fee with a credit or debit card. You'll receive the approval by email — usually within minutes to a couple of days.
2
Check in for your flight
At the airport, show your Serbian passport and your approved ETA (print it or have it on your phone). The airline will verify your ETA before giving you a boarding pass. Make sure your passport has at least 6 months validity left.
3
Arrive at Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB)
After landing in Colombo, follow signs to 'Immigration'. Join the queue for foreign passport holders. Have your passport, ETA approval, and return ticket ready. The officer will stamp your passport — that's your entry. You'll get 30 days from that date.
4
Collect your bags and exit
After the immigration stamp, head to baggage claim, then go through customs. If you have nothing to declare, use the green channel. You're in!

Frequently asked questions

The official ETA fee for a 30-day tourist visit is $35 USD (about €30). You pay online with a credit or debit card. There are unofficial sites that charge extra — always use the official portal at eta.gov.lk.
Most applications are approved within minutes, but it can take up to 24-48 hours in some cases. Apply at least 3-5 days before your flight to be safe.
No, the ETA is not extendable. If you want to stay longer, you'd need to leave the country and re-apply, or check with the Department of Immigration and Emigration in Colombo for other options — but for a standard tourist visit, 30 days is your limit.
It's not strictly required, but it's a good idea to have a printed copy or at least the email saved on your phone. The airline will check it at check-in, and immigration may ask to see it.
You'll be denied boarding at your departure airport. There's no visa-on-arrival for Serbian citizens, so you must have the ETA approved before you fly. Don't risk it.
No, the standard tourist ETA is for a single entry. If you leave Sri Lanka and want to come back, you'll need to apply for a new ETA.
Yes, it's an electronic visa. It's officially called an Electronic Travel Authorization, but it functions exactly like a visa for entry into Sri Lanka.
