Netherlands entry requirements for Rwanda passport holders
Rwandan passport holders need a visa to enter the Netherlands for any purpose. You must apply at the Dutch embassy in Kigali before you travel — there is no visa-on-arrival or e-visa option as of 2026.
Entry requirements
| Requirement | Details | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Visa application Schengen visa required | Apply for a Schengen visa at the Netherlands embassy or consulate in your country of residence. Processing takes at least 15 calendar days — submit your application no later than 6 months and no earlier than 15 days before your trip. The visa allows up to 90 days of travel across all 27 Schengen countries.Apply for visa | Required |
| Valid passport Must be valid for entire stay | Your passport must be valid for the full duration of your stay in the Netherlands. Schengen rules do not require 6 months of validity beyond your departure date, but your airline may enforce this — check with your carrier before flying. | Required |
| Return or onward ticket Proof of onward travel | Immigration officers at Schengen entry points routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy of your flight reservation showing you leave the Schengen area before your visa expires. | Required |
| Proof of accommodation Hotel booking or host invitation | Carry a hotel confirmation, rental agreement, or a signed letter from your host with their address and contact details. Border officers may ask to see where you are staying for the entire trip. | Recommended |
| Proof of funds Show sufficient means for your stay | Have bank statements, a credit card, or cash showing you can cover €55 per person per day of your stay. Immigration officers rarely ask for this, but having proof avoids delays at the border. | Recommended |

Transiting through Netherlands
Rwanda passport holders transiting through a Netherlands airport (Schengen area) do not need a transit visa if they remain airside and do not enter the Schengen zone. However, if leaving the airport or connecting to a non-Schengen flight, a Schengen visa may be required.
- Holders of a valid Schengen visa or residence permit are exempt from transit visa requirements.
- Holders of a valid visa for the UK, US, Canada, Japan, or certain other countries may be exempt under specific conditions.
