Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must cover your entire stay in Taiwan
Your Swedish passport needs to be valid for the full duration of your stay in Taiwan. Taiwan does not enforce a 6-month validity rule for Swedish nationals — as long as your passport is valid when you enter, you are fine.Required
Return or onward ticket
Immigration may ask for proof of departure
Have a return or onward ticket ready when you land at Taoyuan or Kaohsiung airports. Officers occasionally check this, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a printed or digital copy of your hotel reservation, hostel booking, or an invitation letter from your host. Immigration rarely asks, but having it ready avoids delays.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself during your stay
Have access to at least 20,000 TWD (around 6,000 SEK) in cash, a credit card, or a bank statement. Officers almost never check this for Swedish passport holders, but it is a formal requirement.Recommended
Passport validity is strict
Your passport must be valid for 6 months from the day you enter Taiwan. If it's even one day short, you'll be refused boarding. Check your expiry date before booking flights.
No visa, but still need a ticket
Even though you don't need a visa, airlines still require proof of onward travel. Have a return or onward ticket ready — a screenshot on your phone is fine.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Taoyuan or Songshan Airport
Most flights land at Taipei Taoyuan (TPE) or Taipei Songshan (TSA). Follow signs to 'Foreign Passports' — the queue moves fast. Have your passport and return ticket ready.
2
Fill out arrival card (if required)
You may be given a paper arrival card on the plane or at immigration. Fill it out with your passport details and accommodation address. Some airports now use electronic gates — follow the instructions.
3
Present passport and answer questions
Hand over your passport. The officer may ask: 'How long are you staying?' and 'Where are you staying?' Answer clearly. They'll stamp you in and you're good for 90 days.
4
Collect luggage and exit
After immigration, grab your bags from the carousel and walk through customs. Green channel if you have nothing to declare. Done.
