Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply online before travel
Apply at the official Vietnam eVisa portal at evisa.xuatnhapcanh.gov.vn. The fee is $25 USD for single or multiple entry, valid for up to 90 days. Processing takes 3 working days — do not book flights until you receive approval.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of stay
Your Slovenian passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended departure date from Vietnam. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Vietnam
Immigration officers at Noi Bai and Tan Son Nhat routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy of your flight itinerary ready — they will check the date matches your eVisa validity.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Carry a printed hotel confirmation or an invitation letter from your host in Vietnam. Officers occasionally ask for this at passport control, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary.Recommended
Proof of funds
Cash, card, or bank statement
Have at least $500 USD or equivalent in cash, a credit card, or a recent bank statement. Immigration may ask how you plan to support yourself during your stay — showing a card or cash works fine.Recommended
Visa-free for 45 days
Slovenian passport holders can enter Vietnam without a visa for up to 45 days. This is a recent change (2023) — previously it was only 15 days. For longer stays, apply for an e-visa before you travel.
Passport validity counts from entry date
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you land in Vietnam, not from your departure date. If it expires sooner, you'll be denied boarding or entry.

What happens at the border

1
Check visa-free eligibility
If your stay is 45 days or less, you don't need a visa. Just show up with your passport and onward ticket. For longer stays, proceed to step 2.
2
Apply for an e-visa (if needed)
Go to the official Vietnamese e-visa portal (evisa.xuatnhapcanh.gov.vn). Fill in your details, upload a passport photo and a scan of your passport data page, pay the fee (around $25 USD), and wait 3-5 business days. You'll receive a PDF approval letter via email.
3
Print your e-visa approval
Print the e-visa approval letter on A4 paper. Keep it with your passport. You'll need to show it at immigration on arrival.
4
Arrive at the airport
At Noi Bai (Hanoi), Tan Son Nhat (Ho Chi Minh City), or Da Nang airport, proceed to the immigration counter. Hand over your passport, e-visa (if applicable), and boarding pass. The officer may ask for your return ticket and accommodation confirmation.
5
Collect your luggage and exit
After the stamp, collect your bags and walk through customs. There's no arrival card or health declaration to fill out for most travellers.
