Slovak passport holders need an eVisa to enter South Africa in 2026. You apply online before you travel, and the process is straightforward if you have your documents ready.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply before travel
Apply for a South African eVisa at the Department of Home Affairs portal. Processing takes 5–10 business days, so apply at least 2 weeks before departure. The eVisa is single-entry and valid for 90 days from issue.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must have 2 blank pages
Your Slovak passport needs at least 2 consecutive blank pages for entry stamps. Passport must be valid for the entire duration of your stay — South Africa does not enforce the 6-month rule, but airlines often do.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure
Immigration officers at OR Tambo and Cape Town routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed copy or a clear screenshot on your phone showing your departure from South Africa.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host letter
Have your hotel confirmation or a letter from your host ready. Immigration rarely asks for it, but if they do, they want a physical or digital copy with your name and address.Recommended
Proof of funds
Bank statement or cash
Carry a recent bank statement or enough cash to show you can cover your stay. South Africa does not have a fixed minimum, but having at least 3,000 ZAR per day in accessible funds helps.Recommended
eVisa is mandatory — no visa on arrival
South Africa does not offer visa on arrival for Slovak passport holders. You must have an approved eVisa before you board your flight. Airlines check this before letting you check in.
Keep digital copies of everything
Save your eVisa, passport, flight booking, and accommodation confirmation as PDFs on your phone and in cloud storage. If your phone dies or gets lost, you'll still have access.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the eVisa online
Go to the official South African eVisa portal and fill out the application. You'll need to upload a digital passport photo, a copy of your passport bio page, and your flight itinerary. Pay the fee online with a credit card.
2
Wait for approval
Processing usually takes 5–10 business days, but can be longer during peak season. Check your email (including spam) for the approval. Print the eVisa or save it on your phone.
3
Arrive at a South African airport
At OR Tambo (Johannesburg), Cape Town International, or King Shaka (Durban), go to the 'Foreign Passports' queue. Have your passport, eVisa printout or digital copy, return ticket, and accommodation confirmation ready.
4
Go through immigration
Hand over your passport and eVisa. The officer may ask how long you're staying and where. Answer clearly. They'll stamp your passport — check the stamp says the correct number of days.
