Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply online before travel
Apply for your India eVisa at the official government portal at least 4 days before departure. The fee ranges from $25 to $80 USD depending on the visa type (tourist, business, medical). Approval usually arrives within 72 hours — print the approval letter and carry it with your passport.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for 6 months beyond your stay
Your Slovak passport needs at least 6 months of validity remaining from your date of arrival in India. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Required for entry
Immigration officers at Indian airports routinely ask for proof of onward travel. Have a printed or digital copy of your return flight or a ticket to your next destination ready.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Carry a printed hotel confirmation or an invitation letter from your host. Immigration may ask where you are staying, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can cover your stay
Have a bank statement or credit card ready to show you have enough money for your trip. Officers rarely ask for it, but it helps if they question your finances.Recommended
eVisa is not a guarantee of entry
Having an approved eVisa does not guarantee you'll be allowed into India. Immigration officers at the port of entry make the final decision. Always carry supporting documents (return ticket, hotel booking, proof of funds).
Passport validity counts from arrival, not departure
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the date you land in India. If it expires sooner, renew it before applying for the eVisa. Airlines check this before boarding.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for eVisa online
Go to indianvisaonline.gov.in, fill in the application, upload a passport-style photo and your passport data page, and pay the fee (around $10–$100 depending on duration and nationality). Submit at least 4 days before travel.
2
Receive eVisa approval
Check your email (including spam) for the eVisa approval letter. It's a PDF with your photo and passport details. Print a copy and save it on your phone.
3
Arrive at Indian immigration
At the airport, go to the 'eVisa' counter (not the regular visa queue). Hand over your passport and printed eVisa. The officer may ask for your return ticket and hotel booking. You'll get an entry stamp — valid for 60 days from that date.
4
Complete arrival formalities
After immigration, collect your luggage and pass through customs. If you have nothing to declare, use the green channel. Keep your boarding pass handy — customs may ask for it.
