Visa on arrival
Get a visa on arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu and at land border crossings. Pay the fee in cash (USD) — $30 for 15 days, $50 for 30 days, $125 for 90 days. Have two passport-sized photos ready.Apply onlineRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your stay
Your Tunisian passport needs at least 6 months of validity from your date of entry into Nepal. Airlines check this before boarding — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Required for entry
Immigration officers at Kathmandu airport routinely ask for proof of onward travel. Have a printed or digital copy of your return flight or a bus/train ticket out of Nepal ready.Required
Proof of accommodation
Recommended to carry
Immigration rarely asks for hotel bookings, but having a printed reservation for your first few nights helps if questioned. Trekking permits require proof of accommodation in some areas.Recommended
Proof of funds
Recommended to carry
Officials may ask how you plan to fund your stay. Carry at least $200 USD in cash or a credit card statement showing available credit. ATMs are common in Kathmandu but less reliable in remote areas.Recommended
Cash only at immigration
The visa fee must be paid in cash — US dollars, euros, or Nepalese rupees. There are ATMs at the airport, but they may not dispense foreign currency. Bring enough USD to cover the visa fee.
6-month passport validity is strictly enforced
Nepal immigration checks your passport validity from your entry date, not your departure date. If your passport expires within 6 months of landing, you'll be turned away. No exceptions.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at immigration counter
At Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, follow signs to 'Visa on Arrival' after baggage claim. There are self-service kiosks where you fill in your details and print a receipt. If the kiosks are down, use the paper forms at the counter.
2
Fill out the application form
At the kiosk, enter your passport info, flight details, and accommodation address. The machine prints a receipt with a barcode. Keep this — you'll hand it to the immigration officer.
3
Pay the visa fee
Take the receipt to the payment counter. Pay in cash (USD, EUR, or NPR). You'll get a stamped receipt. Keep it with your passport.
4
Submit documents to immigration officer
Hand over your passport, the payment receipt, and the application receipt. The officer will check your details, take a photo, and stamp the visa into your passport. This usually takes 2-5 minutes.
5
Collect your passport and proceed
Once the visa is stamped, collect your passport and head to baggage claim. The visa sticker shows your entry date and allowed stay. Double-check the dates before leaving the counter.

Frequently asked questions

As of 2026, the fees are: 15-day visa — $30 USD, 30-day visa — $50 USD, 90-day visa — $125 USD. You can pay in US dollars, euros, or Nepalese rupees. Cash only — no cards.
Yes, you can extend your visa at the Department of Immigration in Kathmandu (or at immigration offices in Pokhara and other cities). Extensions cost $3 per day for up to 15 days, then $5 per day for additional days. Maximum total stay is 150 days per calendar year.
Visa on arrival is also available at major land border crossings like Kakarbhitta (from India), Birgunj (from India), and Kodari (from China). The process is similar — fill out a form, pay in cash, and get your visa. But not all land crossings offer it — check before you go.
Yes, you still need proof of onward travel. If you're leaving by land, a bus or train ticket out of Nepal works. Immigration may ask to see it.
Yes, the visa on arrival is based on your passport (Tunisian), not your departure country. As long as you have a valid Tunisian passport, you qualify regardless of where you're flying from.
You will be denied a visa on arrival. Nepal strictly enforces the 6-month validity rule. Renew your passport before traveling.
No, it's not mandatory for the visa itself. But it's strongly recommended — medical costs in Nepal can be high, and evacuation insurance is wise if you're trekking.
