Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply before travel
Apply for a Vietnam eVisa at evisa.xuatnhapcanh.gov.vn. The fee is $25 USD for single or multiple entry, valid for up to 90 days. Processing takes 3 working days — apply at least a week before your flight.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for 6 months beyond your stay
Your passport needs at least 6 months of validity from your date of entry into Vietnam. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you'll be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Required for entry
Immigration officers routinely ask for proof of a return or onward flight out of Vietnam. Have a printed or digital copy of your ticket ready — they may deny entry if you can't show one.Required
Proof of accommodation
Recommended to carry
Hotel booking confirmations or an invitation letter from your host can speed up immigration. Officers rarely ask, but having it ready avoids delays.Recommended
Proof of funds
Recommended to carry
Carry at least $500 USD in cash or a credit card statement showing available funds. Immigration may ask for proof of financial means, especially if you're staying longer than a few weeks.Recommended
eVisa processing time
Apply at least 5 working days before your flight. Processing can take up to 3–5 working days, and there are no expedited options. Don't wait until the last minute.
Passport validity counts from entry date
Your passport must be valid for 6 months from the day you land in Vietnam, not from your departure date. If you're flying out on day 90, your passport still needs to be valid for 6 months from day 1.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for eVisa online
Go to the official Vietnamese immigration website (evisa.xuatnhapcanh.gov.vn). Fill in your personal details, upload a passport photo and a scan of your passport data page. Pay the fee (around $25 USD for single entry, $50 for multiple entry). Processing takes 3–5 working days. You'll receive an approval letter by email.
2
Print or save eVisa approval
Once approved, print a copy of the eVisa letter or save it as a PDF on your phone. You'll need to show it at check-in and at immigration in Vietnam.
3
Arrive at Vietnamese airport
At the airport (e.g., Noi Bai in Hanoi or Tan Son Nhat in Ho Chi Minh City), go to the immigration counter. Present your passport, eVisa approval, and return ticket if asked. The officer will stamp your passport. The process usually takes 5–15 minutes.
4
Collect luggage and exit
After clearing immigration, collect your bags from the carousel and proceed through customs. No additional forms needed.
