Valid passport
Must be valid for the entire stay
Your Tanzanian passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended departure date from Vietnam. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you'll be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Vietnam
Immigration officers at Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Da Nang routinely ask for a confirmed onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy of your flight booking showing departure within your eVisa's validity period.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a printed hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from your host in Vietnam. Immigration may ask for your first night's address on arrival — have it ready.Recommended
Passport validity is critical
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your date of entry. Airlines check this at check-in. If your passport expires sooner, you won't be allowed to board.
eVisa is not extendable
Once you're in Vietnam, you cannot extend your eVisa. Plan your stay carefully. If you need more time, you'll have to leave and re-enter with a new visa.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the eVisa Online
Go to the official Vietnam eVisa website (evisa.xuatnhapcanh.gov.vn). Fill in your personal details, upload a passport photo and a scan of your passport data page. Pay the fee (around $25 USD) with a credit or debit card. Processing takes 3-5 working days.
2
Receive and Print Your eVisa
Once approved, you'll get a PDF via email. Print a paper copy and also save it offline on your phone. You'll need to show this at check-in and on arrival.
3
Prepare Your Documents for Travel
Before you leave, gather: your passport (valid 6+ months), printed eVisa, return/onward ticket confirmation, first night hotel booking, and travel insurance (if you have it). Keep them in a folder you can access quickly.
4
Arrive at the Airport in Vietnam
At the airport (e.g., Noi Bai in Hanoi or Tan Son Nhat in Ho Chi Minh City), follow signs to 'Immigration' or 'Arrivals'. Join the queue for 'Foreign Passports'. Have your passport, eVisa, and boarding pass ready. The officer will stamp you in — no additional forms needed.
5
Collect Your Luggage and Exit
After immigration, proceed to baggage claim, then customs. You're free to enter Vietnam. If you have an eSIM, it should activate automatically as soon as you connect to a local network.
