Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your stay
Your passport needs at least 6 months of validity from your entry date into Brazil. Airlines check this before boarding — if your passport expires sooner, you'll be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Brazil
Immigration officers at Brazilian airports routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy of your outbound flight booking ready — they check this before stamping you in.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a printed or digital copy of your hotel reservation or a letter from your host. Officers rarely ask for it, but having it ready avoids delays at the counter.Recommended
Proof of funds
Bank statement or credit card
Immigration may ask to see you have enough money for your stay — a bank statement or a credit card with a reasonable limit works. No set minimum amount is published, but show at least R$200 per day if asked.Recommended
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Brazilian immigration checks passport validity from the date you enter, not your departure. If your passport expires within 6 months of landing, you will be denied entry. Renew before you go.
No visa needed, but documents matter
Even though you don't need a visa, you must carry proof of onward travel and accommodation. Immigration officers can ask for these at any time. Keep digital copies on your phone.

What happens at the border

1
Prepare your documents
Before you fly, gather your passport (valid 6+ months, 1 blank page), return ticket, first night hotel booking, and travel insurance. Save digital copies on your phone.
2
Arrive at a Brazilian airport
You'll land at one of Brazil's international airports: Guarulhos (GRU) in São Paulo, Galeão (GIG) in Rio de Janeiro, or Brasília (BSB). Follow signs to 'Passport Control' or 'Imigração'.
3
Present your passport
Hand your passport to the immigration officer. They will check your validity, stamp your entry, and may ask for your return ticket or hotel booking. Answer clearly and briefly.
4
Receive entry stamp
The officer will stamp your passport with the date of entry and the maximum stay (90 days). Verify the stamp is correct before leaving the counter.
5
Collect luggage and exit
After passport control, proceed to baggage claim, then customs. You're free to enter Brazil.
