Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport only needs to be valid for the period you plan to stay in Georgia. Airlines at Tashkent (TAS) may ask to see 6 months of validity — if yours is close to expiring, carry a printout of Georgia's official policy from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs website.Required
Return or onward ticket
Recommended for visa-free entry
Immigration officers at Tbilisi (TBS) and Kutaisi (KUT) rarely ask for a return ticket, but budget airlines like Wizz Air and Pegasus may check at check-in. Have a printed or digital onward booking within 360 days.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Recommended for visa-free entry
Officers rarely ask for hotel bookings, but if you arrive without a clear plan, they may ask where you're staying. Have a hostel or hotel reservation for the first few nights ready on your phone.Recommended
Proof of funds
Recommended for visa-free entry
Georgia does not have a fixed minimum amount, but carrying around $500–$1,000 in cash or having a credit card with a visible balance covers you if asked. ATMs are widely available in Tbilisi and Batumi.Recommended
360 days is generous — but don't overstay
You can stay almost a full year without a visa. But if you overstay even by one day, you'll face a fine. Set a calendar reminder to leave before day 360.
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your entry date. If it's close to expiry, renew it before you go. Border officers will not make exceptions.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at the border
Whether you fly into Tbilisi International Airport (TBS), Kutaisi (KUT), or Batumi (BUS), or cross by land from Turkey, Armenia, Azerbaijan, or Russia, go to the 'Foreign Passports' queue. Have your passport ready.
2
Present your passport
Hand over your passport to the border officer. They will check its validity and may ask a few questions: purpose of visit, length of stay, where you're staying. Answer briefly and honestly.
3
Receive entry stamp
The officer stamps your passport with the entry date. No visa is placed. You're free to enter Georgia. The stamp marks the start of your 360-day stay.
4
Collect luggage and exit
After passport control, pick up your bags from baggage claim (if flying) and walk through the green 'Nothing to Declare' channel unless you have goods to declare. That's it.

No. The visa-free period is fixed at 360 days and cannot be extended. If you want to stay longer, you must leave Georgia for at least 1 day and then re-enter. Overstaying results in a fine of about 180 GEL (roughly $65 USD) for the first 90 days, and higher penalties after that.
You will be denied entry at the border. Georgian immigration strictly enforces the 6-month validity rule. If your passport has less than 6 months left, renew it before traveling.
No, there is no official requirement to show bank statements or cash. However, if an officer suspects you cannot support yourself, they may ask. Having a credit card or a few hundred dollars in cash is sensible.
Yes. Land borders with Armenia, Turkey, Azerbaijan, and Russia are open for visa-free entry. The same rules apply: valid passport, onward ticket, and no visa needed. Expect similar checks at the border post.
Overstaying is a violation. For the first 90 days of overstay, the fine is 180 GEL. After 90 days, fines increase and you may be banned from re-entering Georgia for a period. Pay the fine at any Public Service Hall (e.g., in Tbilisi or Batumi) before leaving.
No, you don't need any visa — it's visa-free. There is no visa on arrival because no visa is required at all. Just show your passport and you're in.
