Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your Austrian passport needs to be valid for the entire time you plan to stay in the UAE. No minimum validity beyond your departure date is required by UAE immigration, but your airline may check for at least 6 months validity at check-in.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from the UAE
Immigration officers at Dubai and Abu Dhabi airports routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have your booking confirmation ready on your phone or printed.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a printed or digital copy of your hotel reservation or a letter from your host. Immigration may ask where you're staying, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary.Recommended
Proof of funds
Sufficient money for your stay
Have access to at least 3,000 AED (roughly 750 EUR) for a short visit. Immigration rarely checks, but budget airlines and some officers may ask for proof of financial means.Recommended
Overstaying is expensive
If you stay beyond 90 days, you'll be fined 50 AED (about €12) per day. The fine is paid at the airport before departure. Don't risk it — set a reminder to leave on time.
eSIMs save time at the airport
Instead of queuing at a SIM kiosk after a long flight, install an Airalo eSIM before you leave. It activates the moment your plane lands. You'll have data immediately for maps, ride-hailing, and messaging.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Dubai or Abu Dhabi airport
You'll go through immigration at Dubai International (DXB), Abu Dhabi (AUH), or Sharjah (SHJ). Join the 'All Passports' queue. Have your passport and boarding pass ready.
2
Present your passport
Hand your passport to the immigration officer. They will scan it and may ask a few questions — typical ones are 'How long are you staying?' and 'Where are you staying?' Answer briefly and honestly.
3
Receive entry stamp
The officer will stamp your passport with a 90-day visit visa. No fee is charged. Keep the stamp visible — you'll need it when you leave.
4
Collect luggage and exit
After immigration, proceed to baggage claim, then customs. There's nothing special to declare for most tourists.

No. If you're connecting through a UAE airport and staying airside (not passing through immigration), you don't need any visa. If you want to leave the airport during a layover, you can enter visa-free for up to 90 days.

For convenience, buy an Airalo eSIM before you travel — it activates automatically when you land. At the airport, you can also buy a physical SIM from Etisalat or Du kiosks. Prices start around 50 AED for a tourist SIM with data.
No routine vaccinations are required for Austrian passport holders. COVID-19 restrictions have been lifted. If you're arriving from a country with yellow fever, you may need a vaccination certificate — but that doesn't apply to Austria.
