Visa on arrival
Jordan visa on arrival
Austrian passport holders get a visa on arrival at Queen Alia International Airport and most land borders. Cost is 40 JOD for a single-entry visa (valid 30 days) — pay in cash (Jordanian dinars, euros, or US dollars). The visa is issued at the immigration counter before passport control.Apply onlineRequired
Valid passport
Passport validity
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended departure date from Jordan. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of onward travel
Immigration officers routinely ask for a return or onward ticket at the border. Have a printed or digital copy of your flight booking ready — they may deny entry if you cannot show you plan to leave within the visa validity.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a printed hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from your host in Jordan. Immigration may ask for it, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary.Recommended
Proof of funds
Financial means
Have at least 500 JOD (or equivalent in cash, credit card, or bank statement) available per person. Border officers rarely check this for Austrian passport holders, but it is a legal requirement.Recommended
Visa fee is separate from the Jordan Pass
If you buy a Jordan Pass (a tourism package that includes entry to Petra, Jerash, and other sites), the visa fee is waived — provided you stay at least 3 nights in Jordan. You still need to go through the same bank counter process, but you show your Jordan Pass receipt instead of paying. The Jordan Pass costs 70-80 JOD depending on the package.
Cash is king at the bank counter
While some bank counters accept credit cards, the system can be unreliable. Bring enough cash in JOD, USD, or EUR to cover the visa fee (40 JOD). There are ATMs in the arrivals hall, but they sometimes run out of cash.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Queen Alia International Airport (AMM)
After disembarking, follow signs to 'Arrivals' and then 'Visa on Arrival'. You'll see a bank counter before immigration — that's where you pay the visa fee. Have cash (Jordanian Dinar, USD, or EUR) ready.
2
Pay the visa fee at the bank counter
Hand over your passport and the fee. The bank issues a receipt. Keep it — you'll need it at immigration. As of 2026, the fee is 40 JOD (about 56 USD) for a single-entry visa. Credit cards are accepted at some counters, but cash is safer.
3
Proceed to immigration
Join the queue for foreign passports. Present your passport, the bank receipt, and your boarding pass. The officer will stamp the visa into your passport. This takes 2-5 minutes.
4
Collect luggage and exit
After immigration, head to baggage claim, then customs. There's usually nothing to declare for personal items. You're free to enter Jordan.
