Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
ETA-IL applicationETA-IL: Israel's Electronic Travel Authorisation, mandatory for all visa-exempt nationals since August 2024. Apply free at israel-entry.piba.gov.il — usually approved instantly.
Electronic Travel Authorisation
Apply for your free ETA-IL at israel-entry.piba.gov.il before departure. Most applicants get instant approval — the system checks your passport against security databases in real time. Without an approved ETA-IL, the airline won't let you board.Apply for ETA-ILRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for duration of stay
Your Austrian passport needs to be valid for your entire stay in Israel — no 6-month rule applies. Airlines sometimes enforce a 3-month validity beyond departure, so check with your carrier before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure
Immigration officers at Ben Gurion Airport routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy of your flight booking ready. A flexible ticket or a refundable booking works fine.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a printed or digital copy of your hotel reservation or a letter from your host. Immigration rarely asks for it, but having it ready avoids delays if they do.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show sufficient means for your stay
Have a recent bank statement or credit card showing you can cover your expenses. Immigration rarely checks this for Austrian passport holders, but it's good to have on hand.Recommended
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you enter Israel. Airlines check this before boarding — if your passport expires sooner, you'll be denied boarding. Renew early.
Keep digital copies of everything
Save screenshots of your return ticket, accommodation booking, and passport info page on your phone. Immigration at Ben Gurion Airport may ask to see them, and having them ready speeds things up.
No visa needed for 90 days
Austrian passport holders can enter Israel visa-free for tourism or business for up to 90 days. No application, no fee, no paperwork — just show up with a valid passport and an onward ticket.

What happens at the border

1
Prepare your documents before departure
Check your passport validity (6+ months from entry date). Book your return/onward ticket and first night accommodation. Save screenshots of both on your phone. Arrange travel insurance and a local SIM/eSIM.
2
Arrive at Ben Gurion Airport (TLV) or other border
Most travellers fly into Tel Aviv's Ben Gurion Airport. Follow signs to 'Foreign Passports' after disembarking. Queue at the appropriate counter — there are separate lines for Israeli citizens and foreigners.
3
Present your passport and answer questions
Hand over your passport. The officer may ask your purpose of visit, how long you're staying, where you're staying, and your return date. Answer clearly and briefly. They may also ask to see your return ticket or accommodation booking.
4
Receive entry stamp and proceed
If everything is in order, the officer stamps your passport with an entry date. You're then free to collect your luggage and exit the arrivals hall. The whole process usually takes 10–30 minutes.
