Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your Austrian passport only needs to be valid for the period you intend to stay in Turkey. Airlines sometimes ask for 6 months validity — check with your carrier before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Turkey
Immigration officers routinely ask for a return or onward ticket at passport control. Have a printed or digital copy of your outbound booking ready.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a hotel confirmation or a letter of invitation from your host. Officers rarely ask for it, but having it avoids delays.Recommended
Proof of funds
Sufficient money for your stay
Have access to at least €50–€100 per day of your stay. A bank statement or credit card is usually enough if asked.Recommended
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Turkish immigration will deny entry if your passport has less than 6 months of validity from your date of entry. Check your passport now, not at the airport.
90-day limit is cumulative
The 90-day visa-free stay applies across all visits within any 180-day period. If you've already spent 30 days in Turkey, you only have 60 days left — even if you leave and come back.

What happens at the border

1
Prepare your documents
Before you leave, check your passport validity (6+ months from entry), book a return/onward ticket, and arrange first-night accommodation. Save screenshots of everything on your phone.
2
Arrival at Turkish airport
At Istanbul Airport or any other Turkish airport, follow signs to 'Foreign Passports' or 'Yabancı Pasaport'. Join the queue for non-Turkish citizens. Have your passport and boarding pass ready.
3
Immigration counter
Hand over your passport. The officer will check your passport validity, may ask about your stay duration and accommodation. They'll stamp your passport with a 90-day entry. No visa fee, no forms.
4
Collect luggage and exit
After the stamp, proceed to baggage claim, then customs. You're free to enter Turkey.
