Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your stay
Your passport needs at least 6 months of remaining validity from your date of entry into Thailand. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Required for visa-free entry
Immigration officers at Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang airports routinely ask for proof of onward travel within 60 days. Budget airlines are especially strict — have a printed or digital copy of your outbound flight ready.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Immigration may ask where you are staying on arrival. A hotel confirmation email or a letter from your host with their address and phone number is enough.Recommended
Proof of funds
20,000 THB per person or 40,000 THB per family
Officers can request proof you have at least 20,000 THB in cash, traveler's cheques, or a bank statement. Carry the equivalent in a major currency if you don't have Thai baht yet.Recommended
Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC)TDAC
Optional online pre-registration
Register at tdac.immigration.go.th before your flight — it takes 2 minutes and gives you a QR code that speeds up the immigration queue. Not mandatory, but saves time at Suvarnabhumi.Register on TDACOptional
TDAC saves time
The Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) is free and optional, but completing it before you fly can get you through a faster lane at major airports like Bangkok Suvarnabhumi. Do it at tdac.immigration.go.th.
No extension available
This visa-free entry cannot be extended. You must leave Thailand within 60 days. Overstaying costs 500 THB per day and can lead to a re-entry ban. Set a calendar reminder.

What happens at the border

1
Before you fly
Check your passport validity (6+ months from entry date). Book your return/onward ticket. Book your first night's accommodation. Optionally complete the TDAC form online. Arrange travel insurance and a local SIM/eSIM.
2
At the departure airport
The airline check-in agent will verify your passport validity and return ticket. They may also ask for proof of accommodation. If everything's in order, you'll get your boarding pass.
3
Arrival at a Thai airport
Follow signs to 'Passport Control' (not 'Visa on Arrival'). Join the 'Foreign Passport' queue. Have your passport and boarding pass ready. The officer will stamp you in for 60 days. If you completed TDAC, you'll use a faster lane at some airports.
4
After immigration
Collect your luggage, proceed through customs (green channel if nothing to declare), and exit. You're now legally in Thailand for up to 60 days.
