Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply online before travel
Apply for a Vietnam eVisa at evisa.xuatnhhcanh.gov.vn. The fee is $25 USD for single entry or $50 USD for multiple entry, valid for up to 90 days. Processing takes 3 working days — do not book flights until approved.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for the entire stay
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended departure date from Vietnam. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Vietnam
Immigration officers at Noi Bai and Tan Son Nhat routinely ask for a confirmed onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy of your flight out of Vietnam ready — they check this before issuing entry.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a printed hotel confirmation or an invitation letter from your host. Officers occasionally ask for your first night's address — having a booking confirmation avoids delays.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support your stay
Have a bank statement or cash equivalent to at least $500 USD for a short trip. Officers rarely ask, but if they do, you need to show you can cover accommodation and expenses.Recommended
eVisa is single entry only
Your eVisa allows one entry into Vietnam. If you leave and want to return, you need to apply for a new eVisa. Plan your itinerary accordingly.
Passport validity counts from entry date
Make sure your passport is valid for at least 6 months from the day you land in Vietnam, not from the day you apply. If it expires sooner, you'll be denied boarding or entry.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the eVisa online
Go to the official Vietnam eVisa portal (evisa.xuatnhapcanh.gov.vn). Fill in your personal details, upload a passport photo and a scan of your passport data page. Pay the fee (around $25 USD) by card. Processing takes 3–5 working days.
2
Receive and print your eVisa
Once approved, you'll get a PDF via email. Print a copy and also save it on your phone. The eVisa is valid for 90 days from the date of issue, single entry only.
3
Arrive at a Vietnamese airport
When you land at any international airport in Vietnam (Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, etc.), go to the immigration counter. Hand over your passport and printed eVisa. The officer will stamp your passport with an entry stamp. No separate visa sticker is added.
4
Prepare for possible questions
Immigration officers may ask for your return ticket or hotel booking. Have these ready on your phone or printed. Answer clearly and calmly. The whole process usually takes 5–10 minutes.
