Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply before travel
Apply for an Indian eVisa at indianvisaonline.gov.in at least 4 days before departure. Fees range from $25 to $80 USD depending on the visa type (tourist, business, medical). Approval usually arrives within 72 hours — print the approval email and carry it with your passport.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must have at least 6 months validity
Your Colombian passport needs at least 6 months of remaining validity from your date of arrival in India. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Required for entry
Immigration officers at Indian airports routinely ask for proof of onward travel. Have a printed or digital copy of your return flight or a ticket to your next destination ready.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a hotel confirmation or a letter of invitation from your host in India. Immigration may ask where you are staying, especially if you arrive without a pre-booked itinerary.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can cover your stay
Have a bank statement or credit card ready to demonstrate you have enough money for your trip. Officers rarely ask, but it helps if you are staying for more than a few weeks.Recommended
eVisa is for specific purposes only
The eVisa is valid for tourism, business, and medical visits. It cannot be used for work, study, or long-term stays. If your purpose is different, you'll need a regular visa from an Indian embassy.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the eVisa online
Go to the official Indian eVisa website (indianvisaonline.gov.in). Fill out the application, upload a passport photo and a scan of your passport bio page. Pay the fee (around $25–$100 depending on duration). Processing takes 3–5 business days. You'll receive an approval email with a PDF.
2
Print or save your eVisa
Once approved, print a copy and also save the PDF on your phone. Immigration at the airport may ask to see it before boarding your flight.
3
Arrive at an eVisa-designated airport
You can only enter India through 28 designated airports (e.g., Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Kochi). Land at one of these. Go to the 'eVisa' counter in immigration. Hand over your passport and boarding pass. They'll scan your fingerprints and take a photo. The whole process takes 10–20 minutes.
4
Show your return ticket and accommodation
The immigration officer may ask for your return ticket and first night's hotel booking. Have them ready on your phone or printed. Answer questions about your trip (purpose, duration, where you're staying).
5
Get your entry stamp
Once cleared, the officer stamps your passport with your entry date and the allowed stay. Check the stamp before leaving the counter. Your eVisa is usually valid for 30 days, 1 year, or 5 years depending on what you applied for.
