Apply before travel
Colombian passport holders need an eVisa to enter Malaysia. Apply at the official Malaysia eVisa portal — processing takes 2–3 working days. Print the eVisa approval letter and carry it with your passport.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your stay
Your passport must have at least 6 months of validity remaining from your date of entry into Malaysia. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Required for entry
Immigration officers routinely ask for proof of onward travel — a return flight or a ticket to your next destination. Have a printed or digital copy ready. Without it, you risk being refused entry.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a printed hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from your host in Malaysia. Immigration may ask where you are staying — having a booking confirmation avoids delays.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Have bank statements or a credit card showing sufficient funds for your stay. Immigration rarely asks, but if they do, you need to demonstrate at least 500 MYR per day or equivalent.Recommended
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Airlines will deny boarding if your passport has less than 6 months of validity from your entry date. Check your passport now — if it expires within 6 months of your planned arrival, renew it before applying for the eVisa.
Keep a printed copy of your eVisa
Immigration officers may ask to see the eVisa approval letter. Having a printed copy is safer than relying on your phone — battery dies, screens crack. Print two copies and keep one in your carry-on.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for your eVisa online
Go to windowmalaysia.my, fill out the application, upload your passport photo and passport scan, and pay the MYR 200 (~$45 USD) fee. Processing takes 2–3 working days. You'll receive the eVisa approval by email — print it out.
2
Check in for your flight
At the airport, the airline will check your passport validity (6+ months) and your eVisa approval. They may also ask for your return ticket. Have all documents ready to avoid being denied boarding.
3
Arrive at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL) or other entry point
After landing, follow signs to 'Foreign Passport' immigration counters. Have your passport, eVisa printout, and return ticket ready. The officer may ask your purpose of visit and where you're staying. Answer clearly. The process usually takes 5–15 minutes.
4
Collect your baggage and exit
After immigration, collect your luggage from the carousel and proceed through customs. If you have nothing to declare, use the green channel. You're now free to enter Malaysia.

Frequently asked questions

No. Colombia is not eligible for visa on arrival. You must apply for an eVisa online before travel. The eVisa costs MYR 200 (~$45 USD) and takes 2–3 working days to process.
The eVisa allows a single entry and a maximum stay of 30 days. It is valid for 3 months from the date of issue. You cannot extend it beyond 30 days — if you need to stay longer, you must apply for a different visa type (e.g., social visit pass) before your current visa expires.
Overstaying costs MYR 30 (~$7 USD) per day, capped at MYR 2,000 (~$450 USD). You'll also be flagged and may face difficulties re-entering Malaysia. If you overstay more than 30 days, you could be banned from re-entry. Always leave before your visa expires.
No. Colombian passport holders do not need a transit visa for airside transit through Malaysian airports for up to 120 hours, provided you have a confirmed onward ticket and do not pass through immigration. This applies at KUL, PEN, BKI, and KCH.
No. The eVisa is strictly for tourism, business meetings, or social visits. If you plan to work, you need an Employment Pass (MYR 1,000–2,000 per year). For study, you need a Student Pass (MYR 500 per year). Both require employer or school sponsorship.
Rejections are rare but can happen. Common reasons include insufficient funds, no return ticket, or suspicious travel patterns. You can reapply with corrected documents. If rejected again, contact the nearest Malaysian embassy for guidance. The application fee is non-refundable.
No, but it's strongly recommended. Medical costs in private hospitals can be high — a simple hospital stay can cost hundreds of dollars per day. If you're from a yellow fever risk area (parts of South America), you'll need a yellow fever vaccination certificate.
