Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply online before travel
Apply for a Vietnam eVisa at evisa.xuatnhapcanh.gov.vn. The fee is $25 USD for single or multiple entry, valid up to 90 days. Processing takes 3 working days — do not book flights until you receive the approval letter.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of stay
Your Colombian passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended departure date from Vietnam. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Vietnam
Immigration officers at Noi Bai and Tan Son Nhat routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy of your flight booking ready — they will check the date matches your eVisa validity.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a printed hotel confirmation or a letter of invitation from your host. Immigration may ask for your first night's address when you arrive — having it ready avoids delays.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Have access to at least $500 USD in cash, a credit card, or a bank statement. Officers rarely ask for this, but if they do, you need to show you can cover your stay without working.Recommended
Passport validity counts from entry date
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you land in Vietnam, not from your departure date. If your passport expires sooner, renew it before you apply for the eVisa.
eVisa is not extendable
Once you're in Vietnam, you cannot extend your eVisa. If you want to stay longer, you'll need to exit the country and re-enter with a new visa. Plan your trip accordingly.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the eVisa online
Go to the official Vietnam eVisa portal (evisa.xuatnhapcanh.gov.vn). Fill in your personal details, upload a passport photo and a scan of your passport data page, and pay the fee (typically $25 USD for single entry, $50 for multiple entry). Processing takes about 3 working days.
2
Receive and print your eVisa
Once approved, you'll get a PDF via email. Print at least one copy — you'll need to show it at immigration. Also save a digital copy on your phone as backup.
3
Arrive at a Vietnamese airport
You can enter through any of Vietnam's international airports: Noi Bai (Hanoi), Tan Son Nhat (Ho Chi Minh City), Da Nang, Cam Ranh (Nha Trang), or others. Join the 'Foreigners' queue at immigration.
4
Present documents at immigration
Hand over your passport, printed eVisa, and departure card (usually given on the plane). The officer will check your details, stamp your passport, and you're in. Keep your return ticket and accommodation proof handy in case they ask.
