Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply online before travel
Ghana passport holders need a visa for Taiwan. Apply at the Taiwan eVisa portal at least 7 days before departure. The online form asks for passport details, travel dates, and a digital photo — processing takes about 5 working days.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must cover entire stay
Your Ghana passport needs at least 6 months validity beyond your intended departure date from Taiwan. Taiwan immigration checks this strictly at the counter — airlines also verify before boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure
Immigration officers at Taoyuan Airport routinely ask for a confirmed onward or return ticket. Have a printed or digital copy ready — they scan the barcode at the booth.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a hotel confirmation or an invitation letter from your host in Taiwan. Officers occasionally ask for it during secondary screening — showing a booking.com reservation on your phone works.Recommended
Proof of funds
Bank statement or cash
Have a recent bank statement showing at least NT$30,000 (about $1,000 USD) or equivalent in cash. Taiwan rarely checks this for short stays, but budget airlines sometimes ask at check-in.Recommended
No visa-on-arrival for Ghanaian passport holders
You must get your visa approved before you fly. There is no visa-on-arrival or e-visa option. Apply early to avoid last-minute stress.
Keep digital copies of everything
Save your visa approval, flight tickets, and hotel booking as PDFs on your phone and email them to yourself. If you lose your printed copies, you can still show them on your phone.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for your visa online
Go to the Bureau of Consular Affairs visa application portal (visawebapp.boca.gov.tw). Fill in your personal details, upload a passport-style photo, and submit. Pay the visa fee (around TWD 1,600–3,200 depending on type and processing speed). You'll receive a confirmation email.
2
Wait for processing
Standard processing takes 5–10 business days. You can pay extra for expedited service (2–3 days). Check your email (and spam folder) for the approval notification. Once approved, print the visa document.
3
Prepare your documents for travel
Before you fly, gather: your printed visa approval, passport (valid 6+ months), return ticket, hotel booking, and travel insurance. Keep them in your carry-on.
4
Arrive at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (TPE)
After landing, follow signs to 'Foreign Passports' immigration. Have your passport, visa approval, and return ticket ready. The officer may ask your purpose of visit and where you're staying. Answer clearly. They'll stamp your passport and you're in.
