What happens at the border

1
Fill out the arrival form
On the plane or at the airport, grab an arrival card and a visa application form. Fill them out in capital letters. Keep your passport photo handy to attach.
2
Queue at the Visa on Arrival counter
After landing at Phnom Penh (PNH), Siem Reap (REP), or Sihanoukville (KOS), follow signs to 'Visa on Arrival' before immigration. Hand over your passport, completed form, photo, and $30/$35 cash. Wait 5–15 minutes while they process it.
3
Proceed to immigration
Once you have the visa sticker in your passport, join the immigration queue. Present your passport, arrival card, and onward ticket if asked. They'll stamp you in.
4
Collect luggage and exit
After immigration, grab your bags from the carousel and walk through customs. Green channel for nothing to declare, red channel for goods over $500 or restricted items.

Frequently asked questions

Yes, tourist visas can be extended once for 30 days at a cost of around $45–$55 through a travel agency or the immigration office in Phnom Penh. Ordinary visas can be extended multiple times for up to 1 year. You cannot extend at the airport — you must visit an immigration office or use an agent.
No problem — there are photo booths at Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, and Sihanoukville airports. They charge around $2–$3. But it's faster to bring your own.
No — only US dollars cash is accepted at the visa on arrival counter. Bring small denominations ($1, $5, $10, $20). They rarely have change for $100 bills. Cambodian Riel is not accepted for the visa fee.
If you stay airside and don't pass immigration, you don't need a visa. But if you plan to leave the airport or have an overnight layover, you'll need a visa on arrival or an e-visa.
Typically 10–20 minutes at the visa counter, plus another 5–10 minutes at immigration. During peak hours (many flights arriving together), it can take up to 45 minutes total.
Yes, you can apply for a Cambodia e-visa online before you travel. It costs $36 + $7 processing fee, takes 3 business days, and is valid for 30 days. You enter through Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, or Sihanoukville airports, plus some land borders. The e-visa saves you queuing at the visa counter.
Overstay costs $5 per day, paid at immigration when you leave. Overstays of more than 30 days may result in a fine or a ban. It's cheaper to extend your visa before it expires.
