Visa on arrival
Visa on arrival
Get your visa on arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu or at land border crossings. Pay the fee in cash (USD, EUR, or NPR) — 15 days costs $30, 30 days costs $50, 90 days costs $125. Have two passport-sized photos ready.Check visa feesRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your arrival date
Your passport needs at least 6 months of remaining validity from the day you land in Nepal. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Required for visa on arrival
Immigration officers at Kathmandu airport ask for proof of a departure flight. Have a printed or digital copy of your onward ticket ready — they check this before stamping your visa.Required
Proof of accommodation
Recommended to have hotel booking details
Immigration rarely asks for hotel bookings, but having your first night's accommodation address written down helps if questioned. Keep a booking confirmation on your phone.Recommended
Proof of funds
Recommended to show you can support your stay
Officers almost never ask for bank statements, but carrying around $50–$100 USD per day in cash or card statements avoids any hassle. ATMs are widely available in Kathmandu and Pokhara.Recommended
Cash only for visa fee
The visa fee must be paid in cash at the bank counter. Cards are not accepted. Bring USD, EUR, or GBP in cash. ATMs are available after immigration, but not before.
Passport photo tip
The kiosk can take your photo, but it's faster if you bring your own 2x2 inch photo. Saves queuing twice.

What happens at the border

1
Land at Tribhuvan International Airport (KTM)
After deplaning, follow signs to 'Visa on Arrival'. You'll find a row of counters before immigration. There are also self-service kiosks where you can fill in the form and pay.
2
Fill in the visa application form
Use the kiosk or grab a paper form. You'll need your passport details, flight info, and hotel address. The kiosk prints a receipt — keep it.
3
Pay the visa fee
Pay at the bank counter next to the visa counters. Fees are in USD: $30 for 15 days, $50 for 30 days, $125 for 90 days. Cash only (USD, EUR, or GBP accepted). Keep the receipt.
4
Submit documents at the visa counter
Hand over your passport, the completed form, payment receipt, and passport photo. The officer will process and return your passport with the visa sticker.
5
Proceed to immigration
Once you have the visa, join the immigration queue. Show your passport with the visa sticker. That's it — you're in.
