Icelandic passport holders can get a Visa on Arrival (VoA) when entering Indonesia in 2026. This allows a stay of up to 30 days and is issued at major airports and seaports. You'll need to pay the fee in cash (IDR 500,000) and have your documents ready.

Visa on arrival application
Visa on arrival (VOA)
Get your visa on arrival at major Indonesian airports and seaports. Pay the fee in USD or IDR cash — $35 USD for 30 days. Have your return ticket and hotel booking ready at the VOA counter.Check VOA detailsRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your arrival date
Your passport must have at least 6 months of validity remaining from the day you land in Indonesia. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Indonesia
Immigration officers at Jakarta, Bali, and other entry points routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy ready — they will check the date matches your visa duration.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Immigration may ask for your hotel address or a letter of invitation from a host. Have a printed booking confirmation or a digital copy on your phone ready to show.Recommended
Proof of funds
Sufficient money for your stay
Carry at least $1,000 USD in cash or have a bank statement showing available funds. Immigration rarely checks this for short stays, but it helps if asked.Recommended
Cash is king at VoA counters
Most VoA counters only accept cash in Indonesian Rupiah. ATMs are available after immigration but queues can be long. Bring IDR 500,000 in cash (or equivalent in USD/EUR to exchange) to avoid delays.
VoA is not extendable
If you think you might stay longer than 30 days, apply for a B211A social visa before you travel. It allows up to 60 days and can be extended. Overstaying a VoA costs IDR 1,000,000 per day.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at the VoA counter
After deplaning, follow signs to the Visa on Arrival counter. At major airports like Ngurah Rai (Bali) or Soekarno-Hatta (Jakarta), there are dedicated counters. Queue up and present your passport and return ticket.
2
Pay the fee and get your visa
Hand over IDR 500,000 in cash. The officer will process payment and stick the VoA sticker in your passport. This takes about 2-5 minutes.
3
Proceed to immigration
With the VoA sticker in your passport, go to the immigration line. Present your passport, boarding pass, and any requested documents (return ticket, accommodation). The officer will stamp your passport with the entry date.
4
Collect your luggage and exit
After clearing immigration, pick up your bags from the carousel and head to customs. You're now officially in Indonesia.

Frequently asked questions

No, the VoA is not extendable. If you want to stay longer, you must apply for a different visa before travel (e.g., a B211A social visa) or leave and re-enter. Overstaying incurs a fine of IDR 1,000,000 per day.
VoA is available at 24 designated entry points, including major airports (Bali, Jakarta, Surabaya) and seaports (like Batam). Smaller airports may not have VoA counters — check the official list before booking. If your port isn't listed, you'll need a visa in advance.
At most counters, only cash is accepted. Some larger airports (like Bali) have card payment options, but don't rely on it. Always carry IDR 500,000 in cash to avoid delays.
No, Indonesia does not require yellow fever vaccination for travellers from Iceland. However, if you've recently visited a yellow fever endemic country, you may be asked for proof. Check the latest health requirements before travel.
Immigration may deny entry if you can't show proof of onward travel. Airlines also check this before boarding. Book a refundable ticket or a cheap onward flight to a neighbouring country if you're unsure of your plans.
No, the VoA is strictly for tourism, transit, or short business meetings. Working (paid or unpaid) is prohibited. For work, you need a proper work permit and visa. Violating this can lead to deportation and a ban.
Typically 10-20 minutes from queue to stamp, depending on the airport and time of day. At peak hours (like late afternoon in Bali), it can take up to 45 minutes. Plan accordingly.
