No visa on arrival — don't risk it
Lebanese passport holders cannot get a South African visa at the airport. Airlines check for your eVisa approval at check-in and will deny boarding without it. Apply online well before your trip.
The 6-month passport rule is strict
South Africa requires your passport to be valid for at least 6 months from your arrival date. Renew your Lebanese passport before applying for the eVisa if it's close to expiry — you can't apply with one passport and travel on another.
Overstaying gets you banned
The visa is not extendable. If you stay past the date stamped in your passport, you'll be declared undesirable and barred from re-entering South Africa for a set period. Check your entry stamp the moment you clear immigration.

Apply for the eVisa online
Go to the South African Department of Home Affairs eVisa portal and create an account. Upload a scanned passport bio page, a recent passport-style photo, your flight itinerary, and proof of accommodation. Pay the visa fee by card. Do this at least 4–6 weeks before departure — processing can be slower than advertised during peak season.

Wait for written approval
You'll receive the outcome by email. Do not book non-refundable flights until you have the approval in hand. If you're asked for additional documents, respond quickly — delays at this stage are common.

Print everything
Print the eVisa approval letter, your flight confirmation, hotel booking, and travel insurance. Put them in a folder you keep in your carry-on, not your checked bag.

Check in at your departure airport
Airline staff will ask for your passport and eVisa printout before issuing a boarding pass. This is where most problems happen — if your documents aren't in order, you won't be allowed to board.

Arrive at a South African port of entry
At OR Tambo (Johannesburg), Cape Town International, or King Shaka (Durban), join the foreign passport queue. Hand over your passport and eVisa printout. Expect fingerprinting and possibly questions about your itinerary and how long you're staying. Keep your answers short and consistent with your application.

Get stamped and keep the stamp
The officer stamps your passport with your permitted stay. Check the date written in the stamp — that's your deadline to leave. Overstaying, even by a day, gets you flagged for future travel.
