What happens at the border

1
Prepare your documents before departure
Check your passport validity (6 months) and blank pages. Print or save your return ticket and accommodation details. If you've been in a yellow fever area, get the vaccination certificate.
2
Fill in the arrival card on the plane
You'll receive a small form during the flight. Fill it out with your personal details, flight number, and address in South Africa. Keep it with your passport.
3
Go through immigration at the airport
At Johannesburg (JNB), Cape Town (CPT), or Durban (DUR), join the 'Foreign Passports' queue. Present your passport, arrival card, and any supporting documents if asked. The officer will stamp your passport with a visitor's entry permit valid for 90 days.
4
Collect your luggage and exit
After the stamp, proceed to baggage claim and customs. If you have nothing to declare, use the green channel. Keep your passport safe — you'll need it when leaving.
