What happens at the border

1
Apply for your eVisa online
Go to the official Japan eVisa website and fill out the application. You'll need a digital photo, passport scan, flight itinerary, and accommodation details. Processing takes about 5 business days — apply at least 2 weeks before your trip.
2
Receive your eVisa approval
You'll get an email with a PDF or a link to your eVisa. Save it to your phone and email yourself a copy. The eVisa is linked to your passport number — no need to print unless you want a backup.
3
Arrive at the airport in Japan
At immigration, hand over your passport. The officer will scan it and see your eVisa automatically. They may ask for your return ticket or accommodation — have those ready. You'll get a landing permission stamp valid for up to 90 days.
4
Use Visit Japan Web (optional but smart)
Before you land, fill out the free Visit Japan Web form at vjw-lp.digital.go.jp. It pre-fills your customs and immigration declaration — you skip the paper forms and go straight to the faster lane. Do it up to 2 weeks before arrival.
