Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the entire stay
Your passport needs to be valid for the full 90 days you plan to stay in South Korea. Airlines and immigration officers at Incheon and Gimpo will check this before boarding and on arrival.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from South Korea
Immigration officers at Incheon Airport routinely ask for a return or onward ticket within 90 days. Have a printed or digital copy ready — budget airlines often check this at check-in too.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Keep a copy of your hotel reservation or a letter from your host. Officers rarely ask for it, but having it ready avoids delays if they do.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Have a bank statement or credit card showing you have enough money for your stay. Immigration doesn't usually ask, but it's smart to have it accessible on your phone.Recommended
Arrival card is mandatory
You'll be given an arrival card on the plane or at the airport. Fill it out in English or Korean. Keep it with your passport until you exit immigration.
Overstaying is serious
Even one day over your 90-day limit can result in a fine of around 100,000 KRW (about €70) per day, plus possible detention and a re-entry ban. Set a calendar reminder to leave on time.

What happens at the border

1
Arrival at Incheon or other airport
After landing, follow signs to 'Arrivals' and then 'Foreign Passports'. Join the queue for non-Korean passports. Have your passport and completed arrival card ready. The officer will check your passport, take fingerprints, and take a photo. You'll get a stamp allowing up to 90 days.
2
Prepare your documents at the counter
When it's your turn, hand over your passport and arrival card. The officer may ask for your return ticket or hotel booking. Have these ready on your phone or printed. Answer questions clearly. The whole process usually takes 2-5 minutes.
3
Collect your luggage and exit
After immigration, head to baggage claim. Then proceed through customs (green channel if nothing to declare). You're now free to enter South Korea.
