Must be valid for entire stay
Your passport must be valid for the full duration of your stay in Vietnam. Airlines may enforce a 6-month validity rule — check with your carrier before departure.Required

Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a printed hotel confirmation or a letter of invitation from your host. Officers rarely check this, but having it avoids delays if asked.Recommended
Proof of funds
Bank statement or cash
Have a bank statement showing at least $1,000 USD or the equivalent in cash. Immigration may ask to see it if you look like you might overstay or work illegally.Recommended
eVisa is not extendable
If you overstay your eVisa, you'll face fines and possible deportation. Plan your exit date carefully.
Print your eVisa
Always carry a paper copy of your eVisa. Phone screens can die or fail. Immigration officers prefer a physical printout.
eSIM saves time
Activating an eSIM before you land means you have data immediately for maps, translation, and ride-hailing apps. No need to queue at the airport SIM kiosk.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the eVisa online
Go to the official Vietnamese immigration website (evisa.xuatnhapcanh.gov.vn). Fill in your personal details, upload a passport photo and a scan of your passport data page, and pay the fee (typically $25 USD for single entry, $50 USD for multiple entry). Processing takes 3-5 working days.
2
Receive and print your eVisa
Once approved, you'll receive an eVisa PDF via email. Print a paper copy and also save it on your phone. You'll present this at immigration on arrival.
3
Prepare your documents for arrival
Before you land, have your passport, printed eVisa, return ticket, and accommodation confirmation ready. Keep them in an easily accessible pocket.
4
Arrive at a Vietnamese airport
You can enter Vietnam through any of the international airports: Noi Bai (Hanoi), Tan Son Nhat (Ho Chi Minh City), Da Nang, Cam Ranh (Nha Trang), or others. Follow signs to 'Immigration' or 'Foreign Passports'.
5
Present documents at immigration
Hand over your passport, printed eVisa, and any other requested documents. The officer will verify your details, take a fingerprint scan, and stamp your passport. This usually takes 2-5 minutes.
6
Collect luggage and exit
After clearing immigration, proceed to baggage claim, then customs. You're now free to enter Vietnam.
