Omani passport holders need an approved ETA (Electronic Travel Authority) before flying to Australia. This is not a visa sticker in your passport — it's a digital link to your passport number. Apply online, get approved within hours, and stay up to 3 months per visit.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa (ETA) applicationETA (Australia): Electronic Travel Authority — a digital visa linked to your passport. Required for all eligible passport holders. Apply via the Australian ETA app ($20 AUD fee) before travel.
Electronic Travel Authority (subclass 601)
Apply for an ETA through the official Australian ETA app — the website version is a third-party service that charges extra. The app is free to download, the visa costs $20 AUD, and approval usually comes through in seconds. You must apply before boarding your flight to Australia.Apply for ETARequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for the entire stay
Your passport must be valid for the full duration of your time in Australia. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires before you leave, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Australia
Immigration officers at Australian airports routinely ask for proof of onward travel. Have a printed or digital copy of your return flight or a ticket to your next destination ready.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a copy of your hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from your host. Officers rarely ask for it, but having it ready avoids delays at the counter.Recommended
Proof of funds
Bank statement or cash
Have a recent bank statement or credit card showing you can cover your stay. There is no fixed minimum amount, but around $1,000 AUD per week is a safe benchmark.Recommended
ETA is not a visa sticker
Your ETA is electronically linked to your passport number. You won't get a sticker or stamp in your passport. When you check in for your flight, the airline will verify your ETA electronically.
SmartGate speeds up entry
At major Australian airports, use the SmartGate kiosk to scan your passport and answer questions. It's faster than queuing for a human officer. You'll still need to show your passport to an officer after the kiosk.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for your ETA online
Go to the Australian Department of Home Affairs website or download the ETA app. Fill in your passport details, personal info, and travel plans. Pay the fee (AUD 20). Approval is usually instant — check your email.
2
Pack your documents
Print or save to your phone: your ETA approval email, return ticket, first night hotel booking, and travel insurance certificate. Keep them in a folder you can access offline.
3
Arrive at an Australian airport
Most major airports (Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth) have SmartGate kiosks. Scan your passport, answer a few questions on the screen, and get a ticket. Hand that ticket to the border officer. If you're directed to a counter, show your passport and supporting documents.
4
Answer arrival questions
The officer will ask: purpose of visit, length of stay, where you're staying, and if you have a return ticket. Answer clearly and honestly. They rarely ask for proof, but have it ready.
