Omani passport holders need a visa to enter New Zealand. Apply for a visitor visa online before you travel. This requirement is in effect as of 2026.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
New Zealand eVisitor Visa (NZeTA)You must get this online approval before you fly; it is linked to your passport.
Apply online before travel
Omani citizens must obtain an NZeTA (New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority) before boarding a flight to New Zealand. The application is completed online and is valid for up to 2 years. The NZeTA is not a visa but an entry requirement for visa-waiver countries.Required
Passport validityCheck your passport expiry date – it must cover your whole trip plus 6 months.
At least 6 months beyond your intended departure date
Your Omani passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond the date you plan to leave New Zealand. If your passport expires sooner, renew it before applying for the NZeTA.Required
Blank passport pagesMake sure you have a completely blank page – not just a margin.
At least 1 blank page for entry stamp
Your passport must have at least one blank page for the immigration officer to stamp upon arrival in New Zealand.Required
Return or onward ticketIt's safer to have a booked flight out of New Zealand to avoid any questions at the border.
Proof of departure from New Zealand
Although not always checked, immigration officials may ask for evidence of a return or onward ticket to show you intend to leave New Zealand before your permitted stay ends. Carry a printed or digital copy.Recommended
Proof of sufficient fundsHave some proof of funds ready in case you're asked – it's not always required but good to have.
Evidence of financial means
While not a fixed amount is published, you should be able to show you have enough money to cover your stay and departure. This could be bank statements, credit cards, or cash.Recommended
Arrival declarationDon't forget to fill this out – it's a mandatory step for all travellers entering New Zealand.
New Zealand Traveller Declaration
You must complete a New Zealand Traveller Declaration before arriving. This is done online within 24 hours before departure. It collects customs, biosecurity, and health information.Required
Biosecurity is strict
New Zealand has some of the world's toughest biosecurity laws. Declare any food, plants, animal products, or outdoor gear. Failure to declare can result in an instant fine of NZ$400 or more. When in doubt, declare it.
Apply early
Visa processing can take 20–25 days, and delays happen. Apply at least a month before your trip. Don't book non-refundable flights until your visa is approved.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for a visitor visa online
Go to the Immigration New Zealand website and submit a visitor visa application. You'll need to upload your passport details, travel itinerary, proof of funds, and accommodation. Processing takes 20–25 days, so apply at least a month before your trip.
2
Wait for visa approval
After submitting, you'll receive a confirmation email. Check your application status online. Once approved, you'll get an eVisa linked to your passport — print a copy or save it on your phone.
3
Prepare your documents for travel
Before you fly, gather your passport (valid 6+ months), return ticket, accommodation booking, travel insurance, and eVisa approval. Keep digital copies on your phone and paper backups in your carry-on.
4
Arrive at Auckland, Wellington, or Christchurch airport
Most flights from Oman arrive via Dubai or Doha into Auckland. At immigration, present your passport and eVisa. You'll be asked about your travel plans, accommodation, and return ticket. Answer honestly and calmly.
5
Clear customs and biosecurity
New Zealand has strict biosecurity laws. Declare any food, plants, animal products, or outdoor gear. Failure to declare can result in a fine of NZ$400 or more. After that, you're free to enter.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. Omani passport holders must apply for a visitor visa before traveling. There is no visa waiver or NZeTA option for Oman. Apply online at the Immigration New Zealand website.
Processing times vary, but typically take 20–25 days. Apply at least a month before your planned departure. You can check your application status online.
The standard visitor visa application fee is NZD 211 (approx. OMR 50). This is non-refundable even if your application is declined. Additional fees may apply if you use a visa service or courier.
Visitor visas are generally not extendable. If you need to stay longer, you must apply for a different visa type before your current visa expires. Overstaying can result in deportation and future travel bans.
You will be denied entry and put on the next flight back. Airlines check visa requirements before boarding, so you likely won't even be allowed to fly. Always secure your visa before traveling.
Immigration officers may ask how you'll support yourself during your stay. Have a bank statement or credit card available. There's no set minimum, but you should have enough to cover accommodation, food, and transport.
Not strictly required for entry, but strongly recommended. Medical costs in New Zealand are high — a hospital stay can cost hundreds of dollars per day. Insurance also covers trip cancellation and lost luggage.
