Rwandan passport holders can get a visa on arrival in Nepal in 2026. The process is straightforward at Kathmandu's Tribhuvan International Airport — just have your documents ready and pay the fee in cash. You'll get a 15, 30, or 90-day visa depending on what you pay.

Visa on arrival
Visa on arrival
Rwandan passport holders can get a visa on arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu and at land borders. The fee is $30 USD for a 15-day visa, $50 USD for 30 days, and $125 USD for 90 days. Pay in cash (USD, EUR, or NPR) — there's no ATM at the visa counter.Check visa feesRequired
Valid passport
Passport validity
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your date of arrival in Nepal. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you'll be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of onward travel
Immigration officers at Kathmandu airport routinely ask for a return or onward flight booking. Have a printed or digital copy ready — they may deny entry if you can't show one.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking
Carry a hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from your host. Officers rarely ask for it, but having it avoids delays at the visa-on-arrival counter.Recommended
Cash only at visa counter
The visa-on-arrival counter does not accept credit or debit cards. Bring crisp US dollars (no tears, no marks) or exchange some money before you arrive. ATMs are available after immigration, but you'll need cash to get through.
Visa duration starts on arrival
Your 15, 30, or 90-day visa counts from the day you land, not from the day you apply. If you're staying longer, choose the 90-day option upfront — extensions are possible but cost extra.

What happens at the border

1
Fill out the arrival card
On the flight or at the airport, grab a white arrival card. Fill in your personal details, flight number, and accommodation address. Keep it with your passport.
2
Queue at the visa-on-arrival counter
After deplaning, follow signs to 'Visa on Arrival'. There are separate counters for different nationalities — Rwandans use the general counter. Have your passport, arrival card, and cash ready.
3
Pay the fee and get your visa
Tell the officer how many days you want (15, 30, or 90). Pay the fee in USD, EUR, or NPR. They'll take your photo and fingerprints, then stamp your passport. The whole process takes 10–20 minutes.
4
Proceed to immigration
With your visa sticker, join the immigration queue. Hand over your passport and arrival card. The officer may ask your purpose of travel and where you're staying. Answer clearly.
5
Collect your luggage and exit
After immigration, head to baggage claim, then customs. Green channel for nothing to declare, red channel if you have goods over the duty-free limit. Then you're out.

Frequently asked questions

As of 2026, the fees are: 15 days — $30 USD, 30 days — $50 USD, 90 days — $125 USD. Pay in US dollars, euros, or Nepalese rupees. Exact change helps.
Yes, but it's not straightforward. You can apply for a visa extension at the Department of Immigration in Kathmandu (near the airport). Extensions cost about $3 USD per day for up to 15 days, then $5 per day for additional days. You can extend up to a total stay of 150 days per calendar year.
No. They take your photo digitally at the counter. No need to bring passport photos.
Visa on arrival is also available at land border crossings like Sunauli (from India) and Kodari (from China). The process is similar — fill out a form, pay in cash, and get your visa. But the counters are smaller and may have limited hours.
Nepal does not offer an e-visa for Rwandan passport holders. Visa on arrival is the standard method. No need to apply in advance.
Overstays are fined $5 USD per day for the first 30 days, then $2 per day after that. You pay at the immigration office before leaving. Overstays over 30 days may also get a black mark in your record.
Not mandatory for entry, but strongly recommended. Nepal's healthcare system is basic outside Kathmandu, and emergency evacuation by helicopter can cost $5,000+. A good policy covers medical, evacuation, and trip cancellation.
