Rwandan passport holders need a visa to enter Thailand in 2026. You must apply online before you travel — there is no visa on arrival for Rwandan citizens. Plan ahead, as processing can take a few business days.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Visa application
Apply for a visa before travel
Rwandan passport holders must obtain a visa before arriving in Thailand. Apply online at the official Thailand eVisa portal — processing takes 3–5 business days. You will need to upload your passport scan, flight itinerary, hotel booking, and a recent photo.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for at least 6 months
Your passport must have at least 6 months of remaining validity from your date of entry into Thailand. Airlines at Kigali and connecting hubs will check this before letting you board.Required
Return or onward ticket
Required for entry
Immigration officers at Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang routinely ask for proof of a confirmed onward or return flight. Budget airlines flying into Thailand are especially strict about checking this before departure.Required
Proof of accommodation
Recommended to carry
Have a printed or digital copy of your hotel booking or a letter of invitation from your host. Officers occasionally ask for this during the visa application process and at the border.Recommended
Proof of funds
Recommended to carry
Carry evidence of at least 20,000 THB per person or 40,000 THB per family (cash, bank statement, or traveler's cheques). Immigration may ask to see this if you look like you might overstay or work illegally.Recommended
Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC)TDAC: Thailand Digital Arrival Card — a free 2-minute online pre-registration at tdac.immigration.go.th. Not mandatory, but gets you through the immigration queue faster.
Optional online pre-registration
Register online at the TDAC portal before your flight — it takes 2 minutes and gives you a QR code that speeds up your immigration queue. Not mandatory, but saves time at the counter.Register on TDACOptional
No visa on arrival for Rwandans
Unlike many nationalities, Rwandan passport holders cannot get a visa on arrival in Thailand. You must apply for an e-Visa before you travel. Arriving without one means you'll be denied entry and sent back.
Passport validity counts from entry date
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you land in Thailand, not from the day you apply for the visa. If it expires sooner, renew it first.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for your e-Visa online
Go to thaievisa.go.th, create an account, and fill out the application. Upload a scanned copy of your passport bio page, a recent passport-style photo, flight itinerary, and hotel booking. Pay the fee (around 2,000 THB for a tourist visa) by credit card. Processing usually takes 3–5 business days.
2
Receive and print your visa approval
You'll get an email with your visa approval letter. Print it out and keep a digital copy on your phone. The visa is usually valid for 60 days from the date of issue.
3
Prepare your documents for arrival
Before you fly, gather your passport (with 6+ months validity), printed visa approval, return ticket, and hotel booking. Fill out the TDAC online if you want to skip the paper form at the airport.
4
Arrive at a Thai airport and go through immigration
At Suvarnabhumi (BKK), Don Mueang (DMK), Phuket (HKT), or Chiang Mai (CNX), follow signs to 'Foreign Passports' or 'Visa on Arrival' — but since you have a visa, go to the regular immigration counters. Hand over your passport, visa approval, and boarding pass. The officer may ask to see your return ticket and hotel booking. They'll stamp you in for up to 60 days.
