Rwandan passport holders can get a Visa on Arrival (VoA) when landing in Indonesia. This is the standard entry method for tourism and short business visits — no need to apply before you travel. As of 2026, the VoA costs 500,000 IDR (about $32 USD) and is valid for 30 days.

Immigration officers routinely ask for a return or onward ticket at the visa-on-arrival counter. Have a printed or digital copy of your outbound flight booking ready.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking
Carry a printed or digital copy of your hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from your host. Immigration may ask for it during the visa-on-arrival process.Recommended

Sufficient funds
Have at least $1,000 USD or equivalent in cash, traveler's checks, or a bank statement showing available funds. Immigration may ask to see proof of financial means for your stay.Recommended
Cash only for VoA
The Visa on Arrival fee must be paid in cash — 500,000 IDR. ATMs are available after immigration, but it's much smoother to have the exact amount ready before you queue.
30 days, no extension
The VoA for Rwandans is strictly 30 days and cannot be extended. If you need more time, you must exit Indonesia and re-enter, or apply for a different visa before travel.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Indonesian airport
After deplaning, follow signs to 'Visa on Arrival' counters. These are clearly marked at major airports like Jakarta (CGK), Bali (DPS), and Surabaya (SUB).
2
Pay the VoA fee
Hand over 500,000 IDR cash. The officer will issue a receipt and a visa sticker. Keep the receipt — you'll need it later.
3
Proceed to immigration
Join the 'Foreign Passport' queue. Present your passport, the visa sticker, and your boarding pass. The officer will stamp you in for 30 days.
4
Collect baggage and exit
After immigration, grab your bags, fill out the electronic customs declaration (if prompted — there are QR codes at baggage claim), and walk through customs.

Frequently asked questions

No — the VoA for Rwandan passport holders is not extendable. If you need to stay longer, you must leave Indonesia and re-enter, or apply for a different visa type (like a Social Visit Visa) before travel.
The VoA counter usually has change, but it's slower. Bring 500,000 IDR in cash. If you only have larger bills, they'll give you change in Indonesian Rupiah. Avoid using USD or EUR unless you're prepared for a bad exchange rate.
Yes — an onward ticket to any country outside Indonesia works. It just proves you're leaving within the 30-day window. A bus or ferry ticket is not accepted; it must be a flight.
Most international airports offer VoA, but not all. Major hubs like Jakarta (CGK), Bali (DPS), Surabaya (SUB), Medan (KNO), and Makassar (UPG) definitely do. Smaller airports may not — check with your airline before flying.
You'll be fined 1,000,000 IDR (about $65 USD) per day of overstay, payable at immigration before you leave. Overstays over 60 days can lead to detention and deportation. Don't risk it.
No. The VoA is issued on arrival. Indonesia also offers an e-Visa (e-VoA) for some nationalities, but Rwanda is not currently eligible. You must get the VoA at the airport.
No arrival declaration form is required. You'll just need to complete an electronic customs declaration (e-CD) at the airport — there are QR codes at baggage claim. It takes 2 minutes.
