Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must cover your full stay
At least 6 months validity beyond your entry date. Minimum 1 blank page for the entry stamp. Airlines may deny boarding if validity is too close.Required
Return or onward ticket
Officers check this regularly
A confirmed flight out of the country. Immigration may ask to see this — have a screenshot ready on your phone. An onward ticket from a neighbouring country also works.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel name or address
A hotel booking confirmation, or the address of where you are staying. The arrival form often asks for this. A Booking.com or Airbnb confirmation email is fine.Recommended
Proof of funds
Rarely checked
Immigration officers may ask you to demonstrate sufficient funds for your stay. A credit card or bank statement usually suffices.Recommended
Passport validity counts from entry date
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you land in Turkey, not from your departure date. If it expires sooner, renew it before you go.
Overstaying is costly
The 90-day visa-free stay is not extendable. Overstaying results in fines and potential entry bans. Set a reminder to leave before day 90.

What happens at the border

1
Prepare documents before departure
Check your passport validity (6+ months from entry date). Book a return/onward ticket. Save a screenshot of your flight booking and first night accommodation confirmation on your phone.
2
Arrive at Turkish airport
At Istanbul Airport (IST) or Sabiha Gökçen (SAW), follow signs to 'Foreign Passports' or 'Yabancı Pasaport'. Join the queue for non-Turkish citizens.
3
Present documents to immigration officer
Hand over your passport. The officer may ask for your return ticket and accommodation. Answer questions calmly. They'll stamp your passport with a 90-day entry.
4
Collect luggage and exit
After the stamp, proceed to baggage claim, then customs (usually nothing to declare). Exit into the arrivals hall.
5
Activate local connectivity
If you arranged an eSIM, activate it now. Otherwise, buy a physical SIM at airport kiosks (Turkcell, Vodafone, Türk Telekom) — expect to pay around 300-500 TL for a tourist package.

Frequently asked questions

No. The visa-free stay is not extendable. If you overstay, you'll face fines and possible entry bans. To stay longer, you'd need to apply for a residence permit before your 90 days expire — but that's a separate process and not guaranteed.
You'll likely be denied boarding by the airline or refused entry by Turkish immigration. Get your passport renewed before traveling. The 6-month validity is strictly enforced.
Not officially required for Ukrainian passport holders. But if an immigration officer suspects you can't support yourself, they may ask. Having a credit card or a few hundred euros in cash is a good backup.
Yes. The same visa-free rules apply at land borders. You'll still need a passport valid for 6+ months and a return ticket (though land crossings rarely check the ticket).
You'll be fined per day overstayed (currently around 50-100 TL per day, but subject to change). You may also get a ban from re-entering Turkey for a period. Avoid overstaying.
No. If you're transiting through a Turkish airport and not leaving the international transit area, you don't need a visa. But if you plan to leave the airport, you need the same visa-free entry (up to 90 days).
No. Visa-free entry is for tourism, business meetings, or short visits. You cannot work legally. For employment, you need a work permit and visa.
