Visa on arrival
Visa on arrival
Ugandan passport holders can get a visa on arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu and at land border crossings. The fee is $30 USD for 15 days, $50 USD for 30 days, and $125 USD for 90 days. Pay in cash (USD, EUR, or NPR) — there are ATMs but they sometimes run out of cash.Apply onlineRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your stay
Your passport needs at least 6 months of validity from your entry date into Nepal. Airlines at Entebbe check this before boarding — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Required for visa on arrival
Immigration officers at Kathmandu airport ask for a confirmed onward or return ticket before issuing the visa on arrival. Have a printed copy or a screenshot of your booking ready — showing it on your phone works too.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Immigration rarely asks for a hotel booking, but having one speeds up the visa on arrival process. A simple booking confirmation from Booking.com or Agoda with your name and dates is enough.Recommended
Proof of funds
Cash or bank statement
Officials do not routinely check funds, but carrying at least $200 USD in cash or having a bank statement showing sufficient balance covers you if asked. ATMs at the airport dispense NPR, but exchange rates are better in Thamel.Recommended
Visa on arrival is the standard option
Ugandan passport holders do not need to apply for an e-visa or visit an embassy. Just show up at Kathmandu airport or any land border with the required documents and cash.
Cash is king at land borders
If you're entering Nepal overland, card machines are rare. Bring enough USD or NPR to cover the visa fee — $30 for 15 days, $50 for 30 days, $125 for 90 days.

What happens at the border

1
Fill out the arrival form
On the plane to Kathmandu, you'll get a small white arrival card. Fill it out with your passport details, flight info, and accommodation address. Keep it with your passport.
2
Go to the visa on arrival counter
After landing at Tribhuvan International Airport (KTM), follow signs to 'Visa on Arrival'. There are self-service kiosks where you can fill in your details, print a receipt, and pay. Staff are available to help.
3
Pay the fee and get your visa
Pay at the counter (cash or card). You'll receive a visa sticker placed in your passport. Then proceed to immigration, where an officer will stamp you in.
4
Collect your luggage and exit
After immigration, pick up your bags from the carousel and walk through customs. The whole process usually takes 20–30 minutes.

Frequently asked questions

Yes, tourist visas can be extended at the Department of Immigration in Kathmandu (or Pokhara office). Extensions cost about $3 per day for up to 15 days per extension, with a maximum total stay of 150 days per calendar year. You'll need your passport, a photo, and the fee.
Visa on arrival is also available at land border crossings like Sunauli, Kakarbhitta, and Birgunj. The process is similar — fill out a form, pay the fee, and get your visa. Have cash ready as card machines may not be available.
If you're staying airside and not passing immigration, you don't need a visa. But if you leave the transit area for any reason (e.g., to catch a connecting flight from a different terminal), you'll need a visa on arrival.
Yes, the visa on arrival counter at Kathmandu airport accepts major credit cards (Visa, Mastercard). However, it's wise to carry cash as a backup — card machines can occasionally be down.
Overstays are fined at $2 per day for the first 30 days, then $3 per day after that. You pay at immigration when you leave. Serious overstays (over 150 days) can lead to a ban. Always extend before your visa expires.
Nepal does not require yellow fever vaccination for entry from Uganda. However, if you're arriving from a country with yellow fever risk, you may need proof. Check with your airline or the Nepali embassy for the latest requirements.
Technically yes, but immigration may ask for proof of onward travel. Without it, you could be questioned or denied entry. It's safer to have a return or onward ticket booked.
