Vietnamese passport holders need an eVisa to enter Taiwan in 2026. The application is done entirely online, and once approved, you'll get a single-entry permit valid for up to 30 days. It's a straightforward process, but you'll need to plan ahead since approval takes a few days.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
e-Visa for TaiwanYou need to get this online visa approved before you fly; it cannot be obtained on arrival.
Apply online before travel
Vietnamese passport holders must obtain an approved Taiwan e-Visa prior to arrival. Apply through the official Taiwan Ministry of Foreign Affairs e-Visa system at least 7 days before departure. The e-Visa is single-entry and valid for up to 30 days; it is not extendable.Required
Passport validityYour passport must not expire soon after your trip; it needs to be valid for half a year past your arrival.
At least 6 months from entry date
Your Vietnam passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended date of entry into Taiwan (i.e., valid until at least 2027-02-06 if entering on 2026-08-06).Required
Blank passport pagesYou need an empty page in your passport for the immigration officer to stamp.
At least 1 blank page
Your passport must contain at least 1 blank visa page (not counting amendment pages) for the entry stamp.Required
Return or onward ticketShow that you plan to leave Taiwan before your visa expires; a booked ticket is usually enough.
Proof of departure from Taiwan
Immigration may require evidence of a return or onward flight to a third country within your permitted stay (30 days). Have a printed or digital copy ready.Required
Proof of fundsIt's wise to have a bank statement or cash to show you can support yourself during your visit.
Sufficient financial means
Carry evidence of sufficient funds for your stay (e.g., bank statement, credit card, or cash). While not always checked, officers may request proof of ability to cover expenses.Recommended
Accommodation detailsImmigration may ask where you're staying; having a booking confirmation helps.
Hotel booking or host address
Have your hotel reservation or the address of where you will stay in Taiwan ready for immigration questioning. This is commonly requested.Recommended
Arrival declarationYou don't need to fill out any extra arrival form before landing.
Not required
No separate arrival declaration (e.g., health or customs form) is required for Vietnam passport holders entering Taiwan as of 2026.Not required
Apply early — no rush service
The eVisa takes 3–5 business days, and there's no expedited option. If you apply too late and your flight is in 2 days, you risk missing your trip. Apply at least 2 weeks before departure to account for any delays.
Your eVisa is tied to your passport
The eVisa is electronically linked to your passport number. If you renew your passport after getting the eVisa, the eVisa becomes invalid. You'd need to reapply with the new passport.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the eVisa online
Go to the Taiwan Ministry of Foreign Affairs eVisa portal, fill out the application form with your passport details, travel dates, and personal information. Upload a recent passport-style photo and a scan of your passport bio page. Pay the fee online (around NT$1,600, about US$50).
2
Wait for approval
Processing typically takes 3–5 business days, but it can take up to 7. You'll receive an email notification when your eVisa is approved. Check your spam folder — the email sometimes lands there.
3
Print your eVisa
Once approved, log in to the portal and download the eVisa PDF. Print a paper copy — you'll need to show it at check-in and at immigration. A digital copy on your phone is not always accepted.
4
Arrive in Taiwan
At Taoyuan International Airport (TPE) or any other international airport in Taiwan, go to the 'Foreigners' queue. Present your passport, the printed eVisa, and your boarding pass. The officer will scan your passport, take your fingerprints, and stamp you in. You'll get a 30-day stay.
