Proof of onward travel
Immigration officers at Kathmandu airport ask for a confirmed onward ticket out of Nepal. Budget airlines flying into Nepal are especially strict about this — have a printed copy or a screenshot ready.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking
Have your hotel reservation or trekking lodge booking ready. Immigration rarely asks for it, but airlines sometimes check before issuing a boarding pass.Recommended
Proof of funds
Financial means
Carry at least $200 USD in cash or have a credit card statement showing available funds. Immigration may ask to see it if you look like you're planning to work illegally.Recommended
Cash only for visa fee
The visa on arrival fee must be paid in cash (USD, EUR, or NPR). No credit or debit cards accepted. Bring exact change to avoid delays.
Visa not extendable
The visa on arrival cannot be extended. If you need to stay longer than 90 days, you must leave Nepal and re-enter, or apply for a different visa type before you travel.

What happens at the border

1
Land at Tribhuvan International Airport (Kathmandu)
After deplaning, follow signs to 'Visa on Arrival'. There are two queues: one for payment (cash only — USD, EUR, or NPR) and one for visa processing. Have your passport, arrival card, and fee ready.
2
Fill out the arrival card
You'll get a small card on the plane or at the airport. Fill in your details: name, passport number, flight number, accommodation address. Keep it simple.
3
Pay the visa fee
Go to the payment counter first. Fees (as of 2025): 15 days = $30 USD, 30 days = $50 USD, 90 days = $125 USD. Cash only — no cards. Have exact change if possible.
4
Get your visa sticker
Take your receipt and passport to the visa officer. They'll check your documents, take a photo, and stick the visa in your passport. This usually takes 5-10 minutes.
5
Proceed to immigration
After getting the visa, go to the immigration counter for final clearance. They'll stamp you in. Done.
