Ghanaian passport holders need an eVisa to visit India for tourism, business, or medical reasons. As of 2026, the eVisa is the standard entry method — no embassy visit required. Apply online before your flight.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply online before travel
Apply for an Indian eVisa at indianvisaonline.gov.in at least 4 days before departure. Fees range from $25 to $80 USD depending on the visa type (tourist, business, medical). Approval usually arrives within 72 hours — print the approval email and carry it with your passport.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must have at least 6 months validity
Your Ghanaian passport needs at least 6 months of remaining validity from your date of arrival in India. Immigration officers at Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru check this strictly — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from India
Immigration at all Indian airports requires a confirmed onward or return ticket before they let you through. Budget airlines flying into India often check this at check-in too — have a printed copy or a digital booking ready.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a hotel confirmation or a letter from your host in India. Immigration officers occasionally ask for it, especially if you're arriving on a tourist eVisa. A simple booking printout or a screenshot of your Airbnb reservation works.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can cover your stay
Have a bank statement or credit card showing you have enough money for your trip. Immigration rarely asks for it, but if they do, they want to see at least $300–$500 USD equivalent for a short visit.Recommended
Yellow fever vaccination required
If you're flying from Ghana, you must show a valid yellow fever vaccination certificate at Indian immigration. Without it, you could be denied entry or quarantined. Get the shot at least 10 days before travel.
eVisa only for air arrivals
You cannot enter India by land or sea with an eVisa. You must fly into one of the designated eVisa airports. If you're planning to cross by road from Nepal or Bangladesh, you'll need a regular visa from an embassy.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the eVisa online
Go to the official Indian eVisa website (indianvisaonline.gov.in). Fill in your personal and passport details, upload a passport-style photo and a scan of your passport bio page. Pay the fee (around $25–$100 depending on visa type and duration). You'll get a reference number — save it.
2
Wait for approval
Processing usually takes 3–5 business days. Check your email (and spam folder) for the approval. Once approved, you'll get an eVisa document — print it or save a PDF on your phone.
3
Pack your documents
Before you leave for the airport, gather: your passport, the eVisa approval, your return ticket, and your first night's hotel booking. Also have travel insurance details handy.
4
Arrive at an eVisa-designated airport
You must enter India through one of the designated eVisa airports: Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Kochi, Goa, or a few others. At immigration, go to the 'eVisa' counter. Hand over your passport and the eVisa approval. They'll stamp you in — usually for up to 60 days for tourism.
