Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply online before travel
Ghanaian passport holders need an eVisa to enter Malaysia. Apply at the official Window Malaysia portal, upload your passport scan and photo, and pay the fee online. Processing takes 3–5 working days, so apply at least a week before your flight.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your stay
Your Ghanaian passport needs at least 6 months of remaining validity from your date of entry into Malaysia. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Malaysia
Immigration officers routinely ask for a confirmed onward or return flight. Have a printed or digital copy of your ticket ready — a booking reference alone may not be accepted.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Have a hotel confirmation or a letter of invitation from your host in Malaysia. Immigration may ask for it at the counter, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary.Recommended
Proof of funds
Sufficient cash or bank statement
Carry at least 500 USD in cash or have a recent bank statement showing available funds. Immigration can request proof that you can support yourself during your stay.Recommended
No visa on arrival for Ghanaian passport holders
You cannot get a visa at the airport. You must have an approved eVisa before you board your flight to Malaysia. Airlines will check this.
Keep digital copies of everything
Save your eVisa PDF, flight booking, and hotel confirmation on your phone. Immigration may ask to see them, and airport WiFi isn't always reliable.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for your eVisa online
Go to the official Malaysia eVisa website (windowmalaysia.my). Fill in your details, upload a passport photo and your passport bio page, and pay the fee. Processing takes 2–5 working days.
2
Print or save your eVisa
Once approved, download the eVisa PDF. Print a paper copy and save it on your phone. Airlines often check this before you board.
3
Arrive at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA)
Follow signs to 'Foreign Passports' immigration. Join the queue, hand over your passport and eVisa. The officer may ask for your return ticket and hotel booking — have them ready. You'll get an entry stamp valid for up to 30 days.
