Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of stay
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your date of arrival in India. Airlines check this at check-in, and immigration officers at Indian airports enforce it strictly.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of onward travel
Immigration officers at Indian airports routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed copy or a digital version on your phone ready to show.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Carry a hotel booking confirmation or a letter of invitation from your host in India. Immigration may ask for it, especially if you're arriving without a clear itinerary.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show sufficient money for your stay
Have bank statements or a credit card ready to demonstrate you can cover your expenses. Indian immigration rarely asks for this, but it's better to have it on hand.Recommended
Passport validity counts from arrival, not departure
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the date you land in India. If it expires sooner, renew it before applying for the e-Visa. Airlines check this at check-in.
e-Visa is not extendable
The Indian e-Visa cannot be extended or converted to another visa type. If you overstay, you'll face fines and possible deportation. Plan your trip within the visa's validity period.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for e-Visa online
Go to indianvisaonline.gov.in/evisa and fill out the application. Upload a passport-style photo and a scan of your passport info page. Pay the fee (around $25–$100 depending on visa type and duration). Processing usually takes 3–5 business days. You'll receive an approval email — print it or save it.
2
Pack your documents
Before heading to the airport, gather: your passport, printed e-Visa approval, return ticket confirmation, first night hotel booking, and travel insurance details. Keep them in your carry-on.
3
Check-in and boarding
At Kuwait International Airport, the airline will check your e-Visa approval before issuing a boarding pass. They may also verify your return ticket. Show your printed e-Visa or the email on your phone.
4
Arrival at Indian airport
After landing, follow signs to 'Foreign Passport' immigration counters. Have your passport, e-Visa, and return ticket ready. The officer will scan your passport, take fingerprints, and stamp your entry. This usually takes 2–5 minutes.
5
Collect luggage and exit
After immigration, proceed to baggage claim, then customs. If you have nothing to declare, use the green channel. Exit into the arrivals hall where taxis and transport are available.
