Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Visa application
Visitor visa required
Rwandan passport holders need a visitor visa before traveling to Taiwan. Apply online at the Taiwan eVisa Portal — the process takes about 5 working days and costs around TWD 1,600. Print the approval letter and carry it with your passport to immigration.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must cover entire stay
Your passport must be valid for the full duration of your stay in Taiwan. Taiwan does not enforce a 6-month validity rule, but your airline might — check with them before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Required for entry
Immigration officers at Taoyuan Airport routinely ask for proof of onward travel. Have a printed or digital copy of your return or onward ticket ready when you land.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Carry a hotel reservation or an invitation letter from your host in Taiwan. Immigration may ask for it during the interview — having it ready avoids delays.Recommended
Proof of funds
Bank statement or cash
Show you can support yourself during the visit — a recent bank statement or around TWD 20,000 in cash works. Officers rarely ask, but it's smart to have it.Recommended
No visa on arrival for Rwandans
You must have an approved visa before you board your flight to Taiwan. Airlines check this at check-in. Without it, you won't be allowed to fly.
Apply early — processing takes time
Visa processing can take up to 10 business days. Don't wait until the last minute. Apply at least 2 weeks before your departure date.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for your visa online
Go to the Taiwan Visa Web App (visawebapp.boca.gov.tw) and fill out the application. Upload a digital passport photo, your passport data page, and any supporting documents. Pay the fee online. Processing takes 5–10 business days.
2
Prepare your documents
Print or save digital copies of your approved visa, passport, return ticket, accommodation booking, and insurance. Keep them in a folder or on your phone for easy access.
3
Arrive at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (TPE)
After landing, follow signs to 'Foreign Nationals' immigration. Have your passport, visa, and return ticket ready. The officer may ask your purpose of visit and where you're staying. Answer clearly. They'll stamp your passport with your allowed stay period.
4
Collect your luggage and exit
After passing immigration, pick up your bags from the carousel, then proceed through customs. If you have nothing to declare, use the green channel.
