Australia entry requirements for Taiwan passport holders
Taiwan passport holders can travel to Australia with an eVisitor visa (subclass 651), which is free and applied for entirely online. You'll need to submit your application before you fly — there's no visa-on-arrival option.
Entry requirements
| Requirement | Details | Status |
|---|---|---|
| eVisitor (subclass 651) visaYou need to apply for this visa online before you fly; it allows stays of up to 3 months for tourism or business visits. Apply online before travel | Taiwan passport holders must obtain an eVisitor visa online before departure. The application is free and usually processed within 1-2 days. Ensure your passport is valid for at least 6 months from your intended arrival date in Australia. | Required |
| Passport validityYour passport must not expire within 6 months of your arrival date in Australia, or you may be denied boarding. At least 6 months from arrival | Your Taiwan passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your planned date of arrival in Australia. If it expires sooner, renew it before applying for the eVisitor visa. | Required |
| Blank passport pagesAustralian border officials need a clean page to stamp your passport when you enter. At least 1 blank page | Your passport must have at least 1 blank page for the entry stamp. Ensure no pages are damaged or missing. | Required |
| Return or onward ticketImmigration may ask to see proof that you plan to leave Australia before your visa runs out. Proof of departure from Australia | You must hold a confirmed return or onward ticket to a country other than Australia, and your departure must be before your eVisitor visa expires (typically within 3 months of arrival). | Required |
| Proof of sufficient fundsWhile not always checked, having proof of funds can help if asked by immigration officers. For your stay | Be prepared to show evidence of sufficient funds to cover your expenses during your stay in Australia, such as bank statements, credit cards, or cash. The amount is not fixed but should be enough for accommodation, food, and activities. | Recommended |
| Travel insuranceMedical care in Australia can be expensive for visitors; insurance protects you financially. Recommended for medical and trip coverage | Although not mandatory, travel insurance is strongly recommended to cover medical expenses, trip cancellation, and other unforeseen events during your stay in Australia. | Recommended |
| Australian Travel DeclarationYou don't need to fill out any online arrival declaration before flying; just complete the paper card given on the plane. Not required for eVisitor visa holders | As of 2026, the Australian Travel Declaration is not required for eVisitor visa holders. You will complete a standard incoming passenger card on arrival. | Not required |

Transiting through Australia
Taiwan passport holders transiting through Australia are generally eligible for the eVisitor visa (free) or may use the Subclass 771 Transit visa if they do not meet eVisitor requirements. However, for most airside transits under 8 hours, no visa is required if you stay in the international transit area and hold a confirmed onward ticket.
- If you need to clear immigration (e.g., to change airports or collect baggage), you must hold a valid visa (eVisitor or Transit visa).
- Citizens of certain countries may require a Transit visa even for airside transit, but Taiwan is not on that list.
