Taiwan passport holders can travel to Australia with an eVisitor visa (subclass 651), which is free and applied for entirely online. You'll need to submit your application before you fly — there's no visa-on-arrival option.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisitor (subclass 651) visaYou need to apply for this visa online before you fly; it allows stays of up to 3 months for tourism or business visits.
Apply online before travel
Taiwan passport holders must obtain an eVisitor visa online before departure. The application is free and usually processed within 1-2 days. Ensure your passport is valid for at least 6 months from your intended arrival date in Australia.Required
Passport validityYour passport must not expire within 6 months of your arrival date in Australia, or you may be denied boarding.
At least 6 months from arrival
Your Taiwan passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your planned date of arrival in Australia. If it expires sooner, renew it before applying for the eVisitor visa.Required
Blank passport pagesAustralian border officials need a clean page to stamp your passport when you enter.
At least 1 blank page
Your passport must have at least 1 blank page for the entry stamp. Ensure no pages are damaged or missing.Required
Return or onward ticketImmigration may ask to see proof that you plan to leave Australia before your visa runs out.
Proof of departure from Australia
You must hold a confirmed return or onward ticket to a country other than Australia, and your departure must be before your eVisitor visa expires (typically within 3 months of arrival).Required
Proof of sufficient fundsWhile not always checked, having proof of funds can help if asked by immigration officers.
For your stay
Be prepared to show evidence of sufficient funds to cover your expenses during your stay in Australia, such as bank statements, credit cards, or cash. The amount is not fixed but should be enough for accommodation, food, and activities.Recommended
Travel insuranceMedical care in Australia can be expensive for visitors; insurance protects you financially.
Recommended for medical and trip coverage
Although not mandatory, travel insurance is strongly recommended to cover medical expenses, trip cancellation, and other unforeseen events during your stay in Australia.Recommended
Australian Travel DeclarationYou don't need to fill out any online arrival declaration before flying; just complete the paper card given on the plane.
Not required for eVisitor visa holders
As of 2026, the Australian Travel Declaration is not required for eVisitor visa holders. You will complete a standard incoming passenger card on arrival. Not required
Apply early — don't rely on last-minute approval
While the eVisitor is usually processed in 1–2 days, there are no guarantees. If you apply too close to your departure and it's delayed, you could miss your flight. Give yourself at least a week.
Use only the official website
The eVisitor visa is free. Many third-party sites charge $50–$100 for the same application. Always use the Australian Department of Home Affairs website (immi.homeaffairs.gov.au).
Criminal record? Check before applying
If you have any criminal conviction (even minor), you may be ineligible for the eVisitor. Applying with a record that you don't disclose can lead to a ban. If in doubt, consult the Department of Home Affairs or an immigration agent.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the eVisitor visa online
Go to the Australian Department of Home Affairs website and complete the online application. You'll need your passport details, contact info, and answers to a few eligibility questions. The form takes about 15 minutes.
2
Wait for approval
Most applications are approved within 1–2 business days. You'll receive an email with a reference number. Check your spam folder — the email sometimes lands there.
3
Check in at the airport
At check-in, the airline will verify your eVisitor visa electronically. Have your passport and the approval email (or reference number) handy. If the airline can't confirm your visa, you won't be allowed to board.
4
Arrive in Australia and clear immigration
On arrival, go to the ePassport gates (if your passport has the chip symbol) or join the visitor queue. Present your passport to the border officer. They'll stamp it and may ask about your stay — answer honestly. You'll then collect your bags and proceed through customs.
