Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport needs to be valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended departure date from Malaysia. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Malaysia
Immigration officers routinely ask for a confirmed onward or return ticket within the 30-day visa-free period. Have a printed or digital copy ready — budget airlines at KLIA and Penang are known to check this before issuing a boarding pass.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a printed hotel confirmation or a letter of invitation from your host. Immigration rarely asks for it, but having it ready avoids delays if they do.Recommended
Proof of funds
Sufficient cash or bank statement
Have at least 1,000 MYR (about 7,000 TWD) in cash or a recent bank statement showing available funds. Immigration may ask to see it, especially if you arrive without a return ticket.Recommended
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Airlines check your passport validity at check-in. If you have less than 6 months left, they will not let you board. No exceptions.
Keep a copy of your return ticket
Immigration officers at KLIA often ask to see your onward ticket. A screenshot on your phone is fine — just have it ready before you reach the counter.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) or other entry point
Head to the 'Foreign Passport' queue at immigration. Have your passport, boarding pass, and return ticket ready. The officer will stamp you in — usually takes 30 seconds to 2 minutes.
2
Fill out the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC) if required
As of 2026, the MDAC is not mandatory for Taiwanese passport holders, but some airlines may ask for it. If unsure, complete it online at https://imigresen-online.imi.gov.my/mdac/main before departure.
3
Proceed to baggage claim and customs
After immigration, collect your luggage and walk through the green channel if you have nothing to declare. Customs officers may randomly check bags.
