Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Visa on arrival application
Visa on arrival
Get your visa on arrival at any major Indonesian airport or seaport. Pay the fee in cash (USD or IDR) — $35 USD for 30 days. Have your return ticket and hotel booking ready at the counter.Apply onlineRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your arrival date
Indonesia strictly enforces the 6-month passport validity rule. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding. No exceptions.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Indonesia
Immigration officers routinely ask for a return or onward ticket at the visa-on-arrival counter. Have a printed copy or a screenshot ready on your phone. Airlines also check this before boarding.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Immigration may ask for your hotel address or booking confirmation during the visa-on-arrival process. Have a printed copy or a screenshot of your reservation ready.Recommended
Proof of funds
Cash or bank statement
Immigration officers rarely ask, but carry at least $1,000 USD equivalent in cash or have a bank statement showing sufficient funds. ATMs are widely available in cities.Recommended
Cash only for VoA
The Visa on Arrival fee must be paid in cash — IDR 500,000. No credit cards, no ATM nearby. Have the exact amount in Indonesian Rupiah before you reach the counter.
eSIM saves time
Skip the airport SIM card queue. Buy an Airalo eSIM before you fly — it activates the moment you land. No paperwork, no passport needed.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at VoA counter
After deplaning, follow signs to 'Visa on Arrival' or 'VoA' before immigration. At major airports like Jakarta (CGK) or Bali (DPS), counters are clearly marked.
2
Pay the fee and get your visa
Hand over your passport and IDR 500,000 cash. The officer will print a sticker and paste it into your passport. This takes 2-5 minutes.
3
Proceed to immigration
With the VoA sticker in your passport, join the 'Foreign Passport' queue. Present your passport, boarding pass, and return ticket if asked. You'll get a 30-day entry stamp.
4
Collect luggage and exit
After clearing immigration, collect your bags and proceed through customs. You may need to fill an electronic customs declaration (e-CD) online before arrival.
