Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must cover your entire stay in Thailand
Your passport needs to be valid for the full duration of your 60-day visit. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires before you leave, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Outbound flight within 60 days
Immigration at Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang checks for a confirmed onward ticket. Budget airlines like AirAsia and Nok Air routinely deny boarding without one. Have a printed or digital copy of your outbound flight.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Immigration officers occasionally ask for a hotel reservation or a letter from your host in Thailand. A printed booking confirmation from any booking site works fine.Recommended
Proof of funds
20,000 THB per person or 40,000 THB per family
Thailand requires you to show at least 20,000 THB in cash or bank statements if asked. Carry a mix of cash and a card — ATMs at the airport charge 220 THB per withdrawal.Recommended
Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC)TDAC
Optional online pre-registration
Register at tdac.immigration.go.th before your flight — it takes 2 minutes and gives you a QR code for faster immigration processing. Not mandatory, but saves time in the queue.Register on TDACOptional
TDAC saves time at immigration
The Thailand Digital Arrival Card is free and optional, but completing it online before you fly can cut your queue time significantly. Do it at tdac.immigration.go.th.
Overstay = fine + stamp
Overstaying even one day costs 500 THB per day and leaves a stamp in your passport. Multiple overstays can lead to being banned from re-entry. Set a reminder to leave on time.

What happens at the border

1
Prepare your documents before departure
Check your passport validity (6+ months from entry date). Book your return/onward flight and first night accommodation. Save screenshots of both on your phone. Optionally complete the TDAC online form.
2
Arrive at the airport in Thailand
At Suvarnabhumi (BKK) or Don Mueang (DMK), follow signs to 'Passport Control' for foreign passports. Join the queue for visa-free entry. Have your passport, boarding pass, and any supporting documents ready.
3
Present documents to immigration officer
Hand over your passport. The officer may ask: 'How long are you staying?' and 'Where are you staying?' Answer clearly. If asked, show your return ticket and accommodation booking. They'll stamp your passport with a 60-day stay permit.
4
Collect your luggage and exit
After immigration, proceed to baggage claim, then customs. You're free to enter Thailand. Keep your passport safe — you'll need it for hotel check-ins and any domestic flights.

Frequently asked questions

No. The visa-free entry is not extendable. If you want to stay longer, you must leave Thailand and re-enter (visa run) or apply for a different visa type before you travel, such as a tourist visa (single or multiple entry) from a Thai embassy or consulate.
Overstay is fined at 500 THB per day (about $14 USD), capped at 20,000 THB. You'll also get an overstay stamp in your passport, which can cause issues for future entries. Avoid it by leaving on time.
No, there is no official requirement for Taiwanese passport holders to show proof of funds for visa-free entry. However, if you look like you might work illegally or have no means of support, an officer may ask. Having a credit card or some cash (10,000+ THB) is a good idea.
Yes, you can enter via land borders (e.g., from Malaysia, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar) visa-free. The same 60-day stay applies. Just make sure your passport has enough validity and blank pages.
Yes, it's optional. But filling it out online before you fly can save you 10-20 minutes at the immigration queue. It's free and takes 2 minutes. If you skip it, you'll just fill out a paper arrival card at the airport instead.
Immigration at major airports operates 24/7. You'll still be processed normally. Just have your documents ready. The 60-day count starts from the day you actually enter, not the day you were supposed to arrive.
No. Visa-free entry is for tourism, short business meetings, or transit only. You cannot work (paid or unpaid) or enroll in a course longer than 60 days. For work or study, you need the appropriate visa before you arrive.
