Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Visa on arrival
Visa on arrival
Get a visa on arrival at Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, or Sihanoukville airports. Pay $30 USD in cash (bring exact change — the exchange rate at the counter is bad). Have one passport photo ready. The line moves fast, usually under 15 minutes.Apply onlineRequired
Valid passport
Passport validity
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your arrival date in Cambodia. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of onward travel
Immigration officers routinely ask for a flight out of Cambodia. Have a printed or digital copy of your onward ticket ready. If you overstay, the fine is $10 USD per day, paid at the airport before departure.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking
Have your hotel reservation or host address ready. Officers at the visa-on-arrival counter sometimes ask where you are staying. A printed booking confirmation or a screenshot on your phone works.Recommended
Proof of funds
Financial proof
Carry at least $500 USD in cash or have a bank statement showing you can cover your stay. ATMs in Cambodia dispense USD, but the withdrawal fee is $5 per transaction. Immigration rarely asks, but having cash avoids problems.Recommended
Cash only at visa counter
The visa on arrival counter only accepts US dollars cash. No credit cards, no other currencies. ATMs are available after you clear immigration, so bring enough cash with you.
Photo fee at counter
If you forget a passport photo, the visa counter will take one for about $1-2 USD. It's not a scam — it's standard. But having your own photo saves a few minutes.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Phnom Penh or Siem Reap airport
After deplaning, follow signs to 'Visa on Arrival' or 'Arrival Visa'. You'll see a counter before immigration. Fill out the application form (available at the counter). Hand over your passport, form, photo, and $30 cash. They'll process it in 5-10 minutes.
2
Pay and collect your visa
Once processed, they'll call your name or hand back your passport with the visa sticker inside. Double-check the visa class (T for tourist) and validity dates. Then proceed to the immigration queue.
3
Go through immigration
Present your passport with the visa, your boarding pass, and the arrival card (you'll get it on the plane). The officer may ask your hotel name or return flight date. Answer clearly. They'll stamp you in.
