Officers rarely ask, but carry at least $200 USD in cash or a credit card statement showing available funds. ATMs are common in Kathmandu but unreliable in remote trekking areas.Recommended
Cash only at the visa counter
The visa-on-arrival fee must be paid in cash. No credit or debit cards accepted. Bring crisp, undamaged USD bills — worn or torn notes may be refused.

What happens at the border

1
Fill out the arrival form
On the plane or at the airport, grab a 'Tourist Visa On Arrival' form. Fill in your passport details, flight info, and accommodation address. Keep it simple.
2
Queue at the visa counter
At Tribhuvan International Airport, head to the 'Visa On Arrival' counters after baggage claim. There are separate lines for different visa durations (15, 30, 90 days). Join the correct one.
3
Pay the fee and get your visa
Hand over your form, passport, and cash. The officer will process payment, stamp your passport, and give you a receipt. This takes about 5–10 minutes.
4
Proceed to immigration
After getting your visa sticker, go to the immigration counters. Show your passport with the visa, your boarding pass, and your return ticket if asked. They'll scan your passport and let you through.
